Đorđe Andrejević Kun
Đorđe Andrejević Kun (; 31 March 1904 – 17 January 1964) was a Serbs, Serbian and Yugoslavs, Yugoslav painter and graphic artist, a participant in the Spanish Civil War and the World War II in Yugoslavia, National Liberation War in Yugoslavia and a member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. He is known for his paintings, graphic designs and Woodcut, woodcuts. He designed the coat of arms of Belgrade, the Emblem of Yugoslavia, emblem of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the Coat of arms of Serbia, emblem of the Socialist Republic of Serbia and several Yugoslav orders and medals. Biography Early life Kun was born on 31 March 1904 in Wrocław (Breslau), then part of the Kingdom of Prussia, to Veljko Andrejević Kun and his wife Gertruda as the fourth of five children. Woodcut
Woodcut is a relief printing technique in printmaking. An artist carves an image into the surface of a block of wood—typically with gouges—leaving the printing parts level with the surface while removing the non-printing parts. Areas that the artist cuts away carry no ink, while characters or images at surface level carry the ink to produce the print. The block is cut along the wood grain (unlike wood engraving, where the block is cut in the end-grain). The surface is covered with ink by rolling over the surface with an ink-covered roller ( brayer), leaving ink upon the flat surface but not in the non-printing areas. Multiple colours can be printed by keying the paper to a frame around the woodblocks (using a different block for each colour). Yugoslavs or Yugoslavians ( sh-Latn-Cyrl, Jugoslaveni/Jugosloveni, Југославени/Југословени; ; ) is an identity that was originally conceived to refer to a united South Slavic people. It has been used in two connotations: the first in a sense of common shared ethnic descent, i.e. panethnic or supraethnic connotation for ethnic South Slavs, and the second as a term for all citizens of former Yugoslavia regardless of ethnicity. Cultural and political advocates of Yugoslav identity have historically purported the identity to be applicable to all people of South Slav heritage, including those of modern Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia. The Order of Labour ( / , , ) was a Yugoslav civil decoration awarded to both civilians and military personnel for outstanding work performance. It was established in May 1945, and had three classes. In 1961, the classes were renamed: Order of Labour with Red Banner (formerly 1st class), Order of Labour with Golden Wreath (formerly 2nd class) and Order of Labour with Silver Wreath (formerly 3rd class). In 1998, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia adopted a new Law on Decorations that kept most of the decorations of the Socialist Yugoslavia, with some additions.
