Ferenc Marics
Ferenc Marič ( Prekmurje Slovene: ''Ferenc Marič'') (June 11, 1791 – after 1844) was a Hungarian teacher and poet. He was born in Istvánfalva (Apátistvánfalva). His father György Marits was the first teacher and cantor in the village. György was born in Gerecsavecz (Gerečavci, between Sveti Jurij and Večeslavci). Ferenc's mother Anna Trájber was of German descent from Ritkarócz (Ritkaháza, Kétvölgy). Ferenc followed in his father's footsteps and became a teacher. He began his career in 1809 as an assistant teacher in Felsőszölnök, under schoolmaster Mihály Bertalanits (who was born in the same village as Marič's father). He found the ''Ruzsics Hymnal,'' a Slovene hymnal edited by a teacher named Ruzsics (first name unknown) around 1789. Both Bertalanits and Marič copied the hymnal and distributed it among the population of their villages: Marič in Istvánfalva and Bertalanits in Pečarovci. Prekmurje (; Prekmurje Slovene: ''Prèkmürsko'' or ''Prèkmüre''; ) is a geographically, linguistically, culturally, and ethnically defined region of Slovenia, settled by Slovenes and a Hungarians in Slovenia, Hungarian minority, lying between the Mur River in Slovenia and the Rába Valley (the Drainage basin, watershed of the Rába (river), Rába; ) in the westernmost part of Hungary. Mura Statistical Region
The Mura Statistical Region () is a Statistical regions of Slovenia, statistical region in northeast Slovenia. It is predominantly agriculture, agricultural with field crops representing over three-quarters of the total agricultural area (twice as much as the Slovene average). Climate and soil combined have made it the region with the highest crop production, but its geographical position and inferior infrastructure put it at a disadvantage and it is the region of Slovenia with the lowest GDP per capita (EUR 12,267) and the highest rate of registered unemployment. Prekmurje Slovene, also known as the Prekmurje dialect, Eastern Slovene, or Wendish (, , Prekmurje Slovene: ''prekmürski jezik, prekmürščina, prekmörščina, prekmörski jezik, panonska slovenščina''), is the language of Prekmurje in Eastern Slovenia, and a variety of the Slovene language.
