Icelandic Basketball League System
The Icelandic basketball league system, or Icelandic basketball league pyramid, is a series of League system, interconnected competitions for basketball clubs in Iceland. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation, promotion and demotion system between competitions at different levels. Men There are currently four different competitions on the pyramid - the 1st tier Premier League (Iceland), Úrvalsdeild, the 2nd tier First Division Men (Icelandic basketball), Division I, the 3rd tier Division II, and the 4th tier Division III. Hlynur Bæringsson
Hlynur Elías Bæringsson (born 6 July 1982) is an Icelandic former basketball player. During his career, he won the Icelandic championship twice, in 2010 as a member of Snæfell and in 2025 with Stjarnan. In 2011 he won the Swedish championship as a member of Sundsvall Dragons. Hlynur was a key player with the Icelandic national team when it made its first appearance in EuroBasket in 2015 and again in 2017. He is one of eight players who have played at least 120 games for the team. A prolific rebounder, he led the Úrvalsdeild karla in rebounds twice and the Basketligan once. In 2019, he became the Úrvalsdeild karla all-time career rebounding leader. Kristófer Acox
Kristófer Acox (born 13 October 1993) is an Icelandic basketball player for Valur of the Úrvalsdeild karla and a member of the Icelandic national basketball team, with whom he participated in the EuroBasket 2017. As a member of KR, he won the Icelandic championship three times in a row from 2017 to 2019. In 2022, he added his fourth championship, this time with Valur and in 2023, he won the Icelandic Cup for the first time. The 2017–18 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 67th season of the Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Úrvalsdeild, the top tier men's basketball league in Iceland. Stjarnan Men's Basketball
The Stjarnan men's basketball team, commonly known as Stjarnan, is the men's basketball department of Ungmennafélagið Stjarnan, based in the town of Garðabær, Iceland. It is a subdivision of Ungmennafélagið Stjarnan. History Stjarnan's men's basketball team was founded in 1993. It reached the Icelandic top-tier Úrvalsdeild karla in 2001. After losing all its games during the 2001–02 season, the team almost folded. It managed to stay afloat and reached the Úrvalsdeild again in 2007 and advanced to the Úrvalsdeild Finals in 2011 and 2013, losing both times. It won the Icelandic Basketball Cup in 2009, 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2020. Guðmundur Jónsson (basketball)
Guðmundur Jónsson (born 11 December 1953) is an Icelandic architect who lives in Norway. He was educated at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (1975–1981) and ILAUD (International Laboratory of Architecture and Urban Design) in Italy in autumn 1979. He practiced with Lund & Slatto and Eliassen and Lamertz-Nilssen in Oslo from 1981 to 1987 and established Gudmundur Jonsson Arkitektkontor in the same year. His most notable designs are the Norveg Coastal Culture and Industry Center in Rørvik, Hardangervidda Nasjonalparksenter, Norsk Fjordsenter in Geiranger, Søsterskipet in Rørvik, and the library in Akureyri, Iceland. Keflavík (pronounced , meaning ''Driftwood Bay'') is a town in the Reykjanes region in southwest Iceland. It is included in the municipality of Reykjanesbær whose population as of 2016 is 15,129.
