Óscar Acosta
Óscar Acosta Zeledón (14 April 1933 – 15 July 2014) was a Honduran people, Honduran writer, poet, critic, politician and diplomat. Biography He was born in the Las Delicias neighborhood of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, on 14 April 1933. Acosta began his career as a journalist in Peru for ''Tegucigalpa Magazine''. He founded ''la Editorial Nuevo Continente'', ''las revistas Extra'', ''Presente'', ''la Editorial Iberoamericana'', and ''Honduras Literaria y Extra''. He was director of the University Press of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras. He came to notice in the 1950s and 1960s, with his short stories and poetry collections. In 1964, he published an essay on the Honduran writer Rafael Heliodoro Valle, to which he added later works such as "Anthology of the New Honduran Poetry" with the poet Roberto Sosa (poet), Roberto Sosa, "Honduran Poetry Today", and "Anthology of the Honduran Short Story". Honduras
Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. It is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea. Prince Of Asturias Award
The Princess of Asturias Awards (, ), formerly the Prince of Asturias Awards from 1981 to 2014 (), are a series of annual prizes awarded in Spain by the Princess of Asturias Foundation (previously the Prince of Asturias Foundation) to individuals, entities or organizations from around the world who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities, and public affairs. The awards are presented every October in a solemn ceremony at in Oviedo, the capital of the Asturias, Principality of Asturias, and are presented by the Princess of Asturias. Augusto Monterroso
Augusto Monterroso Bonilla (December 21, 1921 – February 8, 2003) was a Honduran writer who adopted Guatemalan nationality, known for the ironical and humorous style of his short stories. He is considered an important figure in the Latin American " Boom" generation, and received several awards, including the Prince of Asturias Award in Literature (2000), Miguel Ángel Asturias National Prize in Literature (1997), and Juan Rulfo Award (1996). Monterroso was a member of the Honduran Academy of Language. Life Monterroso was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to a Honduran mother and Guatemalan father. In 1936 his family settled definitively in Guatemala City, where he would remain until early adulthood. Here he published his first short stories and began his clandestine work against the dictatorship of Jorge Ubico. To this end he founded the newspaper ''El Espectador'' with a group of other writers. Tegucigalpa ( )—formally Tegucigalpa, Municipality of the Central District ( or ''Tegucigalpa, M.D.C.''), and colloquially referred to as ''Tegus'' or ''Teguz''—is the capital and largest city of Honduras along with its sister city, Comayagüela. Roberto Sosa (poet)
Roberto Sosa (18 April 1930 – 23 May 2011) was a Honduran author and poet born in Yoro, Honduras. He spent his early life working hard to help provide for his poor family. He published his first book when he was almost thirty years old. Sosa published ''Los Pobres'' in 1969, which won the Premio Adonais, Adonais Prize in Spain. ''Un Mundo Para Todos Dividido'', published in 1971, won the Casa de las Americas Prize in Cuba. By 1990, he had published six books of poetry, three of prose, and two anthologies of Honduran literature. In 1990, he published ''Obra Completa'' (Complete Works). ''The Difficult Days'', ''Poems'', ''The Common Grief'', and ''The Return of the River'' have all been translated into English. At the time of his death, Sosa lived in Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras.
