ÃŽles Laval
The Îles Laval () are an island grouping in the Rivière des Prairies in southwestern Quebec, part of the Hochelaga Archipelago. Formerly an independent municipality (Les Îles-Laval), they became part of the city of Laval, Quebec, Laval on August 6, 1965. Geography Located northeast of Île Bizard between the Island of Montreal and Île Jésus (Laval Island), they include Île Bigras, Île Pariseau, Île Verte and Île Ronde. Transportation They are served by the Île-Bigras station, Île-Bigras REM station which crosses the islands. A road bridge links the islands with the Sainte-Dorothée, Quebec, Sainte-Dorothée district of Laval, on Île Jésus. Sainte-Dorothée, Quebec
Sainte-Dorothée () is a district in Laval, Quebec. It was a separate city until the municipal mergers on August 6, 1965. The Sainte-Dorothée that was known for forest and farmlands is no longer what it used to be. It took a giant transformation during the last decade with the arrival of SmartCentre (formerly Mega Centre) Sainte-Dorothée and Mega Centre Notre-Dame. It began with the construction of Canadian Tire, IGA & followed with the first Wal-Mart Canada in the western Laval area. The expansion has never stopped since. It now has almost every major department store, restaurant, hundreds of boutiques and two locations open 24 hours. The area also saw a rise in demand for residential development, possibly due to the " Mega Mall" alongside the Highway 13 or the other way around as the mall was built to accommodate the growing number of families looking for affordable homes near the Montreal area. Société de transport de Laval (, STL) is the public transit system in the city of Laval, Quebec, Canada. History The STL was founded in June 1971 as the ''Commission de transport de la Ville de Laval (CTL)''. It later changed its name in 1985 to the ''Société de transport de la Ville de Laval'', until changing to its current name in 2001. In 2009 and 2010, a proposal to convert some of STL's most heavily used routes to trolleybus, electric trolleybuses was studied in detail, funded jointly by STL and Hydro-Québec, but in the fourth quarter of 2010, STL decided to postpone making a decision on trolleybuses until at least 2011, to allow further study of rechargeable electric buses first. Île-Bigras is a future Réseau express métropolitain (REM) station, expected to open in October 2025. It is located in Laval, Quebec, Canada. Until May 2020, the station was a commuter rail station operated by Exo on the Deux-Montagnes line. The Rivière des Prairies (; ), called the Back River in English, is a delta channel of the Ottawa River in southwestern Quebec, Canada. The Kanien'kehá:ka called it ''Skowanoti'', meaning "River behind the island". The river separates the cities of Laval and Montreal. Geography Flowing west to east, the Rivière des Prairies bisects the Hochelaga Archipelago and originates in the Lake of Two Mountains.
