Émile Gardaz
Émile Gardaz (29 August 1931, Échallens, Vaud - 19 December 2007) was a Swiss radio moderator and author, working for Radio suisse romande since 1955. He was the father of comedian Sophie Gardaz. Ten years before his death, in 1997, he was, with Jean-Pierre Thiollet, among the personalities when the township of Delphi appointed the renowned environmentalist Franz Weber a Citoyen d'honneur. Échallens
Échallens is a municipalities of Switzerland, municipality in the district of Gros-de-Vaud District, Gros-de-Vaud in the Cantons of Switzerland, canton of Vaud in Switzerland. History The territory of the municipality was already settled very early. There are remains of a Bronze Age foundry. The first documentation dates from 1141 under the name of ''Charlens''. Later forms of the name include ''Challeins'', ''Escharlens'' (1177), ''Eschallens'' (1228), and ''Eschalleins'' (1279). The present form of the name first appears in 1315. The name comes from the personal name Charles. The site belonged originally to the Bishop of Lausanne. Lys Assia
Rosa Mina Schärer (3 March 1924 – 24 March 2018), known by her stage name Lys Assia, was a Swiss singer who won the first Eurovision Song Contest in . Assia was born in Rupperswil, Aargau, and began her stage career as a dancer, but changed to singing in 1940 where she met her first musical success in 1950 with "O mein Papa". Géo Voumard
Géo Voumard (2 December 1920 – 3 September 2008) was a Swiss jazz pianist and composer. He was a co-founder of the Montreux Jazz Festival and composer of the song "''Refrain''" which won the first Eurovision Song Contest. Life and career Voumard was born in Biel/Bienne. He originally studied architecture in college before starting his musical career. Music career Voumard joined the Hazy Osterwald Orchestra in 1944. Four years later, in 1948, he created his own group. Voumard began broadcasting out of Radio Lausanne, which is now known as Radio Suisse Romande, in 1952. He originally joined Radio Lausanne as an accompanist, pianist, composer and musical producer. In 1966, Voumard became the station's director of pop music. He later served as Radio Lausanne's director of light entertainment from 1969 until 1983. Voumard founded the Montreux Jazz Festival with René Langel and Claude Nobs in 1967. "Refrain" is a song recorded by Swiss singer Lys Assia with music composed by Géo Voumard and lyrics written by Émile Gardaz. Théâtre Du Jorat
The Théâtre du Jorat, inaugurated 9 May 1908, is a theater hall located in the Vaud commune of Mézières, Vaud, Mézières, Switzerland, about 20 km from Lausanne, in the Jorat region. Description The Théâtre du Jorat was established by René Morax in 1908. Werner Reinhart was the primary financial supporter of the Théâtre du Jorat. Constructed entirely of wood which ensures its integration with neighboring farms, it is nicknamed the "Sublime barn" or the "Wooden palace" by the inhabitants of the commune. Oin-Oin
Oin-Oin is a character of Swiss folklore in the Romandy, somewhat comparable to Till Eulenspiegel. Oin-oin is a simpleton who still manages to get out of difficulties with humour and a unique sense of retort. From 1958, Oin-oin was played on radio by Claude Blanc, with Emile Gardaz his ''alter ego'' Milliquet. In France, the character appeared in sketches by Antoine de Caunes on Canal+.
