Åtvidaberg is a locality and the seat of Åtvidaberg Municipality, Östergötland County, Sweden with 6,859 inhabitants in 2010. History Copper was mined in the area from the 14th century, and the name "Åtvidaberg" was originally the name of a ''bergslag'' (a type of mining community). The earliest known use of the place name is from 1467, as a compound of the words ''Åtvid'', which was the name of the parish, and ''berg'', literally "mountain", but in this context referring to a mine. The town's development was to be directed by the noble family Adelswärd. Through investments in the 19th and early 20th century the town developed into a modern industrial town. In the 1970s the industry was dominated by Facit, making calculators. It was a major sponsor of the football team Åtvidabergs FF, one of Sweden's strongest teams in the 1970s. Åtvidabergs Fotbollförening, also known simply as Åtvidabergs FF, Åtvidaberg, Åtvid or (especially locally) ÅFF, is a Swedish professional association football, football club based in Åtvidaberg. The club is affiliated with Östergötlands Fotbollförbund and plays their home games at Kopparvallen. The club colours, reflected in their crest and kit, are blue and white. Formed on 1 July 1907 as Åtvidabergs IF, the club was most successful during the 1970s when they won two List of Swedish football champions, national championship titles and two Svenska Cupen, national cup titles. With a population of around 7,000, Åtvidaberg is the smallest town ever to bring home a Swedish league title. Åtvidaberg Municipality () is a municipality in Östergötland County in southeastern Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Åtvidaberg, with some 7,000 inhabitants. The present municipality was established in 1971 when the market town (''köping'') of ''Åtvidaberg'' (instituted in 1947) was amalgamated with its surrounding rural municipalities. Facit (''Facit AB'') was an industrial corporation and manufacturer of office products including furniture. It was based in Ã…tvidaberg, Sweden, and founded in 1922 as ''AB Ã…tvidabergs Industrier''. Facit AB, a manufacturer of mechanical calculators, was incorporated into the corporation the same year. In 1932, the first ten-digit calculator was manufactured by Ã…tvidaberg Industries, it was named FACIT and became a great success. In the 1950s, Facit introduced a mascot character, a short, smiling man with a wizard's cap called "Facit Man". The character first appeared in the instruction manuals for Facit's calculators. The character lasted into the 1970s. Adelswärd (noble Family)
Adelswärd was a Swedish noble family, introduced at Riddarhuset as noble family number 1707, which consists of two lines, related through female line. The first line, called the Hultman line, is descended from Lars Hemmingsson (ca 1610-1688), tradesman in Norrköping. He is also male-line ancestor of the Swedish noble family Carlsköld. He was married 7 November 1641 in Norrköping to Maria Hansdotter (buried 2 March 1684 in Norrköping). Their son was the tradesman in Norrköping, Lorents Hultman (ca 1660-1702), who first was married 6 December 1685 in Norrköping to Johanna Bröms (born 15 January 1668, dead 19 March 1696), and then married ca 1698 to Margareta Karlsdotter (born 18 January 1680 in Norrköping, dead 2 January 1753 in Stockholm. It is available both online and via a printed version. History The project was initiated in 1980 when a government committee suggested that negotiations be initiated with various publishers.
