The history of volleyball in Jastrzębie-Zdrój dates back to 1949 when a group of young boys from the local schools gathered by a sports executive Jan Maciejewski formed a club under the name ''LZS Jastrzębie''. In 1961 the club ceased to exist and in the same year due to the population increase, caused by the beginning of coal mining in the region, was founded a club named ''Górnik Jastrzębie'', later in 1963 renamed to ''Górnik JAS–MOS''.
