Ipiranga (district Of São Paulo)
Ipiranga (, from the Tupi (''y'', river; ''pirang'', red) for "red river") is a historical district located in the subprefecture of the same name of São Paulo, Brazil. The name Ipiranga comes from the river (which now is a brook) of the same name located in the region, which means "red river" in a Tupí–Guaraní language. The Independence Park (Parque da Independência), where supposedly the Emperor Pedro I of Brazil proclaimed the independence of Brazil, the Paulista Museum, which exhibits classic architecture and a collection of Brazilian colonial artifacts, and the Museum of Zoology of the University of São Paulo, are also located in Ipiranga. The Ipiranga Brook is perhaps one of the most famous Brazilian brooks, because it is mentioned in the first line of the Brazilian National Anthem. The São Paulo Metro ( pt, Metrô de São Paulo, ), commonly called the ''Metrô'' () is one of the urban railways that serves the city of São Paulo, alongside the São Paulo Metropolitan Trains Company (CPTM), forming the largest metropolitan rail transport network of Latin America. The six lines in the metro system operate on of route, serving 91 stations. The metro system carries about 5,300,000 passengers a day. Metro itself is far from covering the entire urban area in the city of São Paulo and only runs within the city limits. Bilhete Único (''Unified Ticket'') is the name of the São Paulo transportation contactless smart card system for fare control. Using Philips Mifare technology, the ticketing system is managed by SPTrans (São Paulo Transporte S/A), the city bus transportation authority, which is controlled by the municipal government. Tickets were first issued using the system on May 18, 2004, when Marta Suplicy was the mayor, allowing for up to four rides in two hours by paying a single fare on buses. From 2006 it has also been used in the local rapid transit system (São Paulo Metro) and on suburban railways operated by CPTM. SPTrans
(SPTrans) (English: São Paulo Transport), is the name adopted on March 8, 1995 by the municipal local government which aims to manage the public transport system with buses in São Paulo. Until 1995, it was known as ', which, when translated from Portuguese to English, it is the ''Municipal Public Transport Company''. All bus lines are operated by concessionaires under the supervision of SPTrans, providing business planning and management of public transport. The SPTrans issues work orders for each line of operation, including setting paths, hours of operation, and necessary fleet. The fare can be made in cash or by contactless smart card called Bilhete Único. The company also manages the bus lanes and bus terminals in the city. Line 2 (Green) ( pt, Linha 2–Verde) is one of the six lines that make up the São Paulo Metro and one of the thirteen lines that make up the Metropolitan Rail Transportation Network. It currently runs between the Vila Madalena and Vila Prudente stations. The line is also called the Paulista Line, because it goes along much of the Avenida Paulista, one of the leading financial centers in São Paulo. Vila Prudente (São Paulo Metro)
Vila Prudente is a station on Line 2-Green and Line 15-Silver of the São Paulo Metro and is the terminus. There are plans to integrate the station with Expresso Tiradentes Line 2 (a bus rapid transit system). The Vila Prudente Bus Terminal is also nearby. Metro stations It was scheduled to open in March 2010, but delays in the constructions prevented the opening, that became unknown until being scheduled, with 3 days in advance, to 21 August 2010. The passenger boarding, however, began only 2 days later, on Monday.
