Erik Solheim
Erik Solheim (born 18 January 1955) is a Norwegian diplomat and former politician. He served in the Norwegian government from 2005 to 2012 as Minister of International Development and Minister of the Environment, and as Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme from 2016 to 2018. Solheim is a member of the Green Party. Erik Solheim has 4 children from two marriages. Solheim was formerly a politician for the Socialist Left Party (SV); he led its youth branch, the Socialist Youth, from 1977 to 1981, was party secretary from 1981 to 1985, and served as a member of the Parliament of Norway from 1989 to 2001. He was leader of the Socialist Left Party from 1987 to 1997. During Solheim's tenure as party leader the party moved closer to the centre and abandoned many former hard-left stances. Green Party (Norway)
The Green Party ( nb, Miljøpartiet De Grønne, nn, Miljøpartiet Dei Grøne, sme, Birasbellodat Ruonát, ) is a centre-left green political party in Norway. The party holds three seats in the Parliament of Norway (gaining 3.8% in the 2021 elections) and also has representation in municipal councils and county councils (gaining 6.8% in the 2019 elections). 2015 Norwegian Local Elections
Local elections were held in Norway on 14 September 2015. Voters elected representatives to municipal and county councils, which are responsible for education, public transport, health, and elderly care, and for the levy of certain taxes. The Labour Party (Norway), Labour Party became the largest party, gaining 33% of the vote, while the nationally governing Conservative Party (Norway), Conservative and Progress Party (Norway), Progress parties suffered losses relative to their performances in the 2013 parliamentary and 2011 local elections. Eelam War IV
Eelam War IV is the name given to the fourth phase of armed conflict between the Sri Lankan military and the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Renewed hostilities began on the 26 July 2006, when Sri Lanka Air Force fighter jets bombed several LTTE camps around Mavil Aru anicut. The government's ''casus belli'' was that the LTTE had cut off the water supply to surrounding paddy fields in the area. Shutting down the sluice gates of the Mavil Aru on July 21 depriving the water to over 15,000 people - Sinhalese and Muslim settlers under Sri Lankan state-sponsored colonisation schemes in Trincomalee district. They were denied of water for drinking and also cultivating over 30,000 acres of paddy and other crops. Socialist Youth (Norwegian: ''Sosialistisk Ungdom'') is the youth league of the Socialist Left Party of Norway. The current head of the organisation is Synnøve Kronen Snyen. SU considers itself a revolutionary party consisting of Marxists and wants to gain popular support for socialism in Norway. In this respect it differs from SV, the mother party. SU organises some 850 members between the age of 13 and 30. They have regional branches in all 19 counties, and have around 60 local groups.
