Block Parent Program
The Block Parent Program ''( French: Le Programme Parents-Secours)'' is a large, volunteer-based, child safety and crime prevention program operating across Canada. Participants in the program (''Block Parents'') place signs on their homes indicating that the house is a police-screened, safe home for community members in distress, particularly children. If someone is in need of help and sees a block parent sign, they know there is someone home who can help them and call the appropriate emergency service if necessary. The program, which included 300,000 participants in its heyday, is in decline. RCMP detachments in British Columbia and Prince Edward Island have abandoned the program, as have local police in major centres including Toronto and Ottawa. Participation declined from 253,000 homes in 1995 to approximately 25,000 in 2013. The September 11 attacks, commonly known as 9/11, were four coordinated suicide terrorist attacks carried out by al-Qaeda against the United States on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Safety House Program
The Safety House Program was a national Australian community based and funded program designed for the safety of children while in transit to and from school. Houses and businesses were selected as safe places for children to seek shelter and safety if required. Applicants had to undergo criminal history checks and other checks such as a home inspection, etc. History The program was established in North Dandenong, Victoria, Australia in 1979. New South Wales took up the program in April, 1984. Safety Houses were denoted by a square yellow plastic sign featuring the Safety House logo. The Safety House Program was discontinued in Victoria from 31 July 2013. National Safe Place
National Safe Place (doing business as National Safe Place Network) is a non-profit organization based out of Louisville, Kentucky. It originated in 1983 from an initiative known as "Project Safe Place", established by a short-term residential and counseling center for youth 12 to 17. The organization is intended to provide access to immediate help and support for children and adolescents who are "at risk" or in crisis situations.That includes, for example, children who are runaways or those experiencing homelessness. The purpose is to both defuse a potential crisis situation as well as provide immediate counsel and support so the child in crisis may be directed to an appropriate shelter or accredited care facility. Businesses and community buildings such as fire stations and libraries are designated as "Safe Place" sites.
