Bay City Rollers
The Bay City Rollers are a Scottish pop rock band known for their worldwide teen idol popularity in the 1970s. They have been called the " tartan teen sensations from Edinburgh" and one of many acts heralded as the "biggest group since the Beatles. The group's line up had many changes over the years, but the classic roster during its peak in popularity included guitarists Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood, singer Les McKeown, bassist Alan Longmuir, and drummer Derek Longmuir. The current line-up (since 2018) includes original guitarist Stuart "Woody" Wood, singer Ian Thomson, bassist Marcus Cordock, and drummer Jamie McGrory. Billy Lyall
William Lyall (26 March 1953 – 1 December 1989) was a Scottish musician, known for his work with Pilot, The Alan Parsons Project, and the Bay City Rollers. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Lyall was a singer, keyboard player and flautist with Pilot, and co-wrote " Magic", Pilot's 1974 hit single. He moved to London in the early 1970s and lived in a red-brick mansion flat in Fitzjames Avenue, West Kensington. He contributed to the Alan Parsons Project with fellow Pilot members, and he was an early member of the Bay City Rollers. He was the keyboard player for Dollar between 1978 and 1982. He left Pilot in early 1976, and he released a solo album, ''Solo Casting'', later that year. In 1979, he contributed string arrangements and synthesizers to an album by the band Runner. Tam Paton
Thomas Dougal "Tam" Paton (5 August 1938 – 8 April 2009) was a pop group manager, most notably of the Scottish boy band the Bay City Rollers. Biography Born in Prestonpans, Scotland, he was the son of a potato merchant. Paton initially drove a truck to aid the Bay City Rollers financially. He guided the band through to their period of success during the mid-1970s, nurturing their image of being the "boys next door". He was responsible for beginning a myth that the band members preferred drinking milk to alcohol, in order to cultivate a clean, innocent image. However, vocalist Les McKeown later said Paton introduced the band members to drugs. "When we got a wee bit tired, he'd give us amphetamines," McKeown recalled in 2005. "He'd keep us awake with speed, black bombers. You end up almost showing off to each other what stupid drugs you've taken." "Heat Wave" is a 1963 song written by the Holland–Dozier–Holland songwriting team. It was first made popular by the Motown vocal group Martha and the Vandellas. Released as a 45 rpm single on July 9, 1963, on the Motown subsidiary Gordy label, it hit number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot R&B chart—where it stayed for four weeks—and peaking at number 4 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Stuart John “Woody” Wood (born 25 February 1957), is a Scottish musician, songwriter and producer. Career Wood is best known as the guitarist for the 1970s band the Bay City Rollers since joining in 1974. During the 1970s, the Bay City Rollers would garner immense popularity, which would be nicknamed Rollermania (the name inspired by that of Beatlemania. Bay City Rollers original members, Derek Longmuir, Alan Longmuir, Les McKeown and Eric Faulkner, have all left the band at certain points from the early 1980s to 2016, leaving Wood as the only member from the classic era still touring as the Bay City Rollers.
