Name and history

Union Township was established in 1813. It was so named because it was formed from a "union" of land given by Chester, Richland, and Vernon townships. It is one of twenty-seven Union Townships statewide.

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.
