Union Township is one of the thirteen townships of Clinton County, Ohio, United States. The 2020 United States Census reported 3,140 people living in the township. Geography Located at the center of the county, it borders the following townships: * Liberty Township - north * Wilson Township - northeast * Richland Township - east * Wayne Township - southeast corner * Green Township - southeast * Washington Township - south * Vernon Township - southwest corner * Adams Township - west * Chester Township - northwest The entire township lies in the Virginia Military District. KC-97
The Boeing KC-97 Stratofreighter is a four-engined, piston-powered United States strategic tanker aircraft based on the Boeing C-97 Stratofreighter. It replaced the KB-29 and was succeeded by the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker. Design and development The KC-97 Stratofreighter was an aerial refueling tanker variant of the C-97 Stratofreighter (which was itself based on the Boeing B-29 Superfortress), greatly modified with all the necessary tanks, plumbing, and a flying boom first developed for the KB-29 bomber. The cavernous upper deck was capable of accommodating oversize cargo accessed through a very large right-side door. In addition, transferable jet fuel was contained in tanks on the lower deck (G-L models). Both decks were heated and pressurized for high altitude operations. The Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) is a MAJCOM, major command (MAJCOM) of the United States Air Force, with its headquarters at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia. It is the federal Air Reserve Component (ARC) of the U.S. Air Force, consisting of commissioned officers and enlisted airmen. Clinton County Air Force Base
Wilmington Air Park, effective 2009-08-27. is a public-use airport located two nautical miles (3.7 km) southeast of the central business district of Wilmington, a city in Clinton County, Ohio, United States. While DHL had privately owned the property while operating from the facility, the company agreed to donate the airfield to the Clinton County Port Authority. The airport was formerly known as Clinton County Air Force Base. History The airport opened in 1929 and a small hangar was built in 1930. The landing strip was approved by the Civil Works Administration in 1933. In 1940, the Civil Aeronautics Authority took control of Wilmington Airport for use as an emergency landing field. Ohio State Route 134
State Route 134 (SR 134) is a north–south state highway in the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. Its southern terminus is at its intersection with SR 32 in Sardinia and its northern terminus is at its intersection with Main Street in Port William. History SR 134 was commissioned in 1923, on the same route as today between Sardinia and Wilmington. In 1926 the route was paved between Pulse and Lynchburg. The section of road between SR 28 and Wilmington was paved in 1934. The rest of the original highway was paved in 1935. In 1938 the highway was extended to Port William. One year later the route between Wilmington and Port William was paved. State Route 73 (SR 73) is an east–west state highway in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. Its western terminus is on U.S. Route 27 in Oxford at the intersection of SR 732. SR 73’s eastern terminus is in Portsmouth at US 23; this is also the southern terminus of SR 104, and the two state routes run concurrently for over from this point north. Once SR 73 enters Scioto County, it is designated as the Scenic Scioto Heritage Trail by the Ohio Department of Transportation. 3C Highway
State Route 3 (SR 3) is a major north–south (physically northeast-southwest) highway in Ohio which leads from Cincinnati to Cleveland by way of Columbus. It is the second longest state route in Ohio. Because of this, the road is also known as the 3-C Highway, a designation which predates the Ohio state highway system. It is the only state route to enter all three of Ohio's largest cities, though it has largely been bypassed by Interstate 71 (I-71). The route's southern terminus is in downtown Cincinnati at the U.S. Route 27 (US 27)/US 52/US 127 concurrency, which is also the western terminus of US 22. Virginia Military District
The Virginia Military District was an approximately 4.2 million acre (17,000 km²) area of land in what is now the state of Ohio that was reserved by Virginia to use as payment in lieu of cash for its veterans of the American Revolutionary War. Virginia had historic claims to much of the Northwest Territory, which included Ohio, dating from its colonial charter. Virginia and the other states ceded their claims over western lands to overcome other states' objections to ratifying the Articles of Confederation. In return for ceding its claims in 1784, Virginia was granted this area to provide military bounty land grants.
