Unlike Cranchiinae , the other subfamily within Cranchiidae , Taoniinae all lack

He placed the genus '' Bathothauma'' into a new family, Bathothaumatidae , now just treated as a junior synonym of Cranchiidae. Subsequent research did not pay much heed to Grimpe's taxonomy.
