As a junior curler, Sherrard won three provincial junior titles in his native

(5–2; lost tiebreaker). Sherrard later moved to Germany to study, taking a few years off from curling. In 2016 he went with friend to the world championships in Basel and was introduced to the German team there, he was later asked to join the German national team as an alternate to replace an injured player. Sherrard studied biochemistry at Mount Allison University, then completed his Ph.D. in Biology at
