s. The club spent the majority of its early years in the lower Divisions of Victorian football. From 1973 to 1989, the club competed between Victorian League Division 2 and 3. The club was promoted to Victorian League Division 1 for the first time in 1989, but were relegated back to Division 2 in 1991. The club then achieved successive promotions in 1992 and 1993 to take Port Melbourne to the
Victorian Premier League The National Premier Leagues Victoria, commonly known as NPL Victoria, is a semi-professional soccer league in Victoria, Australia. The league is a part of the National Premier Leagues, and is the highest level within the Victorian soccer leagu ...
for the first time in its history in 1994. The club managed to make the finals in its first season in the competition and went all the way to the grand final after wins against
