A second 11th-placed finish in the Championship was achieved in the 2016/17 season He scored his only goal of the 2017-18 season against Nottingham Forest on 23 December in a 1–1 draw. Preston just missed out on the play-off places on the last day of the season in May 2018, finishing 7th. On 10 July 2018 Huntington signed a new three-year contract with Preston North End. On 28 December 2020 Huntington signed a contract extension with Preston North End for a 10th year until 30 June 2022. He was released at the end of the 2021–22 season.
