The system used in the European Championship up to 1992 was 2 points for a win, and
3 points for a win from 1996 onwards. In this ranking 2 points are awarded for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. As per statistical convention in football, matches decided in
extra time
Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played onl ...
are counted as wins and losses, while matches decided by
