Ludovico Bertonio
Ludovico Bertonio (1552 in Rocca Contrada – 3 August 1625 in Lima) was an Italian Jesuit missionary to South America. Life He entered the Society of Jesus in 1575. Sent to Peru six years later, he worked principally among the Aymara people, Aymara of southern Peru and of Bolivia. Work He wrote on the Aymara language. Rocca Contrada
Arcevia is a ''comune'' in the province of Ancona of the region of Marche, central-eastern Italy. It is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy"). History According to tradition, Arcevia originates from a Gauls, Gallic settlement anterior to the Ancient Rome, Roman conquest of Italy; following that, it became overshadowed by more important nearby cities, such as Suasa. Under the name of Rocca Contrada, the town was fortified by Pippin the Younger, King of the Franks, and was then donated by Charlemagne to the Papal States. In the following centuries, Arcevia played a key role in the local balance of power, located as it was at the border of the Marca di Ancona, Umbria, and the Duchy of Urbino. Manuel De Mendiburu
Manuel de Mendiburu (20 October 1805 – 21 January 1885) was a Peruvian statesman and historian born in Lima. He was educated at the University of San Marcos. When the movement for independence reached Peru, he joined the patriot army as a color sergeant in 1821. As lieutenant he distinguished himself in various battles, and was captured by the Spanish. After the end of the war was made captain (1830) and by 1851 had reached the rank of general. He filled various roles during his long and active political career. In 1831 he was sent on special missions to Brazil and Spain. From 1834 to 1870 he was employed in the government service, filling successively the positions of prefect of various departments; holding the portfolios of Government, Finance, Foreign Relations, and War and Marine; serving as deputy in congress, Vice President of the Constituent Assembly, and Minister of Peru to England, to Bolivia, and to Chile.
