Biography

Estuardo Núñez was born in Chorrillos in 1908, although he later moved to the nearby

. He was the son of Colonel Maximiliano Núñez Delgado de la Flor and Rosa Hague. At the age of five he began to learn to read on an Underwood Typewriter, using it to recognize and then type the letters of the alphabet. He studied at the local German-language school, where he was classmates with

. He was married to the painter and writer Cota Carvallo, with whom he had seven children. In 1967 he was appointed Director of the National Library of Peru. In that role he was responsible for publishing Peruvian classics, as well as the reconstruction and reopening of the Library, which had remained unfinished since a fire in 1943.
