She completed a Bachelor of MediArts majoring in journalism from Waikato Polytech (now WINTEC) and a Diploma in Journalism from the Journalists Training Organisation. to announce that she is expecting her first child. On 30 June 2010, the Flynns had a baby girl they named Tilly Zoe Flynn. She gave birth to her second child in February 2012. Flynn was pregnant and expecting her third child with husband Dave, due in early March 2017.
