History

The club was founded on 24 November 1918 in the Plaza de la Concepción, located in the capital of San Juan. The club took its name from Peñarol of Uruguay and took the colors of Chacarita Juniors of Buenos Aires, the colors red, white, and black. But in the first order of t-shirts, from Buenos Aires they sent the clothing with the colors red, white and blue (instead of black) by mistake. At the national level, he would not stand out until 1979, where he would qualify to compete in the 1979–80 Torneo Regional, where he would be quickly eliminated by the club Juventud Unida Universitario of San Luis after drawing the first leg 1–1 at home, but losing 2–0 as an away. He would participate in the 2007, 2008, 2011, and 2012 editions of the Torneo del Interior (Argentine fifth division), without notable results. He participated several seasons in the Argentine fourth division. He played the 5 editions of the Torneo Federal B (2014, 2015, 2016, complementary 2016 and 2017) plus the first of the 2019 Torneo Regional Federal, adding 6 consecutive seasons in the fourth division. On promotion day, 16 June 2019, in Chivilcoy, Sportivo Peñarol promoted with these players: Carlos Biasotti, Mario Rebeco, Lucas Arturia, Pablo Costi, Francisco Fernández, Roberto Martín, Ernesto Ceballos, Carlos Fernández, Facundo González, Gabriel González, and Gustavo Pereira.
