Platt is openly gay. He told his family when he was thirteen years old, and publicly came out at 26, in 2019, as an adult, before the release of his song "Ease My Mind." On January 12, 2020, Platt began a relationship with Noah Galvin (who succeeded him in the title role in ''Dear Evan Hansen''). They announced their engagement on November 25, 2022.
