June

On June 6, 2016, information came out that assistant coach Steve Thomas was not returning next season. The Lightning decided not to renew his contract with the club. Thomas had been on Cooper's staff since the 2013–14 season and with the organization since 2010, when he served as a player development coordinator (2010–12). On June 7, 2016, the Lightning announced it had hired Todd Richards. Richards was brought in as a replacement for outgoing assistant coach Steve Thomas.
