2016–17 Vancouver Canucks Season
The 2016–17 Vancouver Canucks season was the 47th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on May 22, 1970. For the third consecutive season, they opened the season with a match against the Calgary Flames. The team finished with the lowest-scoring season in franchise history, scoring just 182 goals. The day after the Canucks' season-ending game, head coach Willie Desjardins was fired, along with assistant coaches Doug Lidster and Perry Pearn. Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference (french: Conférence de l'Ouest) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The conferences and divisions were re-aligned in 1981 to better reflect the geographical locations of the teams, but the existing names were retained with the Campbell Conference becoming the conference for the NHL's westernmost teams. Nikita Tryamkin
Nikita Andreyevich Tryamkin (russian: Никита Андреевич Трямкин) (born 30 August 1994) is a Russian professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing for the Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Tryamkin made his Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) debut playing with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg during the 2012–13 KHL season. Jared McCann
Jared McCann (born May 31, 1996) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL). McCann was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the first round (24th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, McCann has previously played for the Canucks, Florida Panthers and Pittsburgh Penguins. Early life McCann was born on May 31, 1996, in Stratford, Ontario, to construction company owners Erin and Matt McCann. He grew up with two older siblings, Justin and Jaimie, and an older half-brother named Jordan. 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs
The 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs of the National Hockey League (NHL) began on April 13, 2016 and ended on June 12, 2016, with the Pittsburgh Penguins defeating the San Jose Sharks four games to two in the 2016 Stanley Cup Finals. For only the second time in league history (1970 being the only other time), none of the NHL's Canadian-based teams, seven in total, qualified for the postseason. Perry Pearn
Perry Pearn (born June 6, 1951) is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach. He is a former assistant coach in the National Hockey League, most recently with the Vancouver Canucks. In 2022, he became the head coach of the Japanese national ice hockey team. Coaching career Pearn, a native of Stettler, Alberta, was an assistant with the original incarnation of the Winnipeg Jets (1995–1996), Ottawa Senators (1996–2004), New York Rangers (2004–2009), Montreal Canadiens (2009–2011) and the current Jets (2012–2014). On August 11, 2014 he was hired as an assistant coach by the Vancouver Canucks. Doug Lidster
John Douglas Andrew Lidster (born October 18, 1960) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was an assistant coach for the Vancouver Canucks until the end of the 2016-2017 season. Lidster was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the seventh round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft (133rd overall). Lidster played four years of college hockey for Colorado College before playing for Team Canada in the 1984 Olympics. He made his NHL debut with the Canucks near the end of the 1983–84 season, and became a reliable presence on the Vancouver blue line until he was traded to the New York Rangers prior to the 1993–94 NHL season.
