Šavnik
Šavnik ( cnr, Шавник, ) is a town in Montenegro and administrative center of the Šavnik Municipality. It is located at the confluence of three rivers - Bukovica, Bijela and Šavnik, at an altitude of 840 meters. It is the lowest lying settlement in the municipality. History Unlike most settlements in the area, which date back several centuries, Šavnik is relatively new, founded only in 1861. It was populated by migrants from other parts of Montenegro and Herzegovina, mostly craftsmen, merchants, riflers and blacksmiths, which were needed by local farmers. The area was overgrown with willows, which the newly formed town was named after (šavice – willow branches or seams, which were used as a roof covering). Before the construction of first houses on the site of today's town, there were two mills on Šavnik River. Šavnik Municipality
Šavnik Municipality is one of the municipalities of Montenegro. The municipality is located in northwestern part of Montenegro, being part of Durmitor region. The administrative center is small town of Šavnik. Geography and location Šavnik is located at the confluence of three rivers - Bukovica, Bijela and Šavnik, at an altitude of 840 meters. The municipality is located in north-western region of Montenegro in the Drobnjaci region, named after the local clan of Drobnjaci. Population of Šavnik and entire municipality is since in slow but steady decline. Most of the residents are migrating to Nikšić and southern Montenegro, and Šavnik is often a synonym for a poor and deteriorating town. Šavnik is situated on a regional road between Nikšić (45 km) and Žabljak (15 km), and it is its only link with the rest of Montenegro. M-6 Highway (Montenegro)
M-6 highway ( cnr, Magistralni put M-6, script=Latn) (previously R-5 and parts of M-8 and R-4) is a Montenegrin roadway. History Part of the M-6 highway that was previously M-8 highway was built as part of the larger M-8 highway within the Yugoslav highway network, spanning Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia. It connected Pljevlja with Foča in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Prijepolje, Sjenica and Novi Pazar in Serbia. However, construction was never completed on the Montenegrin section of the road. Section between Jasenovo Polje and Krnovo was only main road built in Montenegro during 1990s. The ''municipalities'' (Serbian: ''opštine'' / општине, singular: ''opština'' / општина) are the first level administrative subdivisions of Montenegro. The country is divided into 25 municipalities including the Old Royal Capital Cetinje and the Podgorica Capital City. Drobnjaci
Drobnjaci (, ) are historical tribe and region, Drobnjak, in Old Herzegovina in Montenegro (municipalities from Nikšić to Šavnik, Žabljak and Pljevlja). Its unofficial centre is in Šavnik. The Serb Orthodox families have St. George (''Đurđevdan'') as their patron saint ('' slava'') and the majority of Drobnjak churches are devoted to St. George as well. Families of distant Drobnjak origin are present in all former Yugoslav republics and in Hungary and Hungarian populated parts of Romania and Slovakia where it is spelled in its magyarised form as Drobnyák. History Origin and early history According to Serbian historian Andrija Luburić (1930), by oral tradition their origin was from Travnik in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and initially were called as '' Novljani''. First mention of the name was in 1285 Ragusan document, where was mentioned ''Vlach'' Bratinja Drobnjak. Term Vlach has germanic root ''walh'' meaning ''foreigner''.
