Ä°stanbul State Art And Sculpture Museum
The İstanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum (''İstanbul Resim ve Heykel Müzesi'') is in the Tophane area of European İstanbul, Turkey, and is part of the large Galataport complex. The museum was originally housed in the mansion of the crown prince attached to the Dolmabahçe Palace in the Beşiktaş neighbourhood of İstanbul. The building housing it dated back to 1856. On 20 September 1937, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, suggested its conversion into a museum since the imperial family had been driven into exile with the coming of the Turkish Republic. It has now been moved into a new gallery on the edge of the Galataport where it is very close to the Istanbul Modern gallery, turning the area into an artistic hub for the city. The building chosen - Antrepo No 5 - was originally designed to serve the old port at Karaköy by the Turkish architect Sedad Hakkı Eldem. Karaköy (), the modern name for the old Galata, is a commercial quarter in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, Turkey, located at the northern part of the Golden Horn mouth on the European side of Bosphorus. Osman Hamdi Bey
Osman Hamdi Bey (30 December 1842, in Istanbul 24 February 1910) was an Ottoman Empire, Ottoman administrator, intellectual, art expert and also a prominent and pioneering painter. Emre Arolat (born 24 June 1963) is a Turkish architect. In 2004, he co-founded EAA-Emre Arolat Architecture with Gonca PaÅŸolar. He is perhaps best known in Turkey for designing the Sancaklar Mosque. Early life Arolat was born in Ankara in 1963. After completing his primary education at Galatasaray High School, he studied at Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul where he received his BArch degree in architecture in 1986 and MArch degree in 1992. Sedad Hakkı Eldem
Sedad Hakkı Eldem (1908 in Constantinople – 7 September 1988, in Istanbul), was a Turkish architect and one of the pioneers of nationalized modern architecture in Turkey. Biography Eldem was born in Istanbul in 1908. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts department of Architecture. Between 1931 and 1932 he travelled to France, England and Germany with a scholarship from the academy. In 1932 he opened his own office and started teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts, which he continued until his retirement in 1978. In 1934 he worked for the National Architecture Seminar in Turkey, which was disaster for him, because of the discussions between modern architecture and traditional architecture. İstanbul Modern, a.k.a. Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, ( tr, İstanbul Modern Sanat Müzesi) is a museum of contemporary art in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, Turkey.
