Beşiktaş
Beşiktaş () is a district and municipality of Istanbul, Turkey, located on the European shore of the Bosphorus strait. It is bordered on the north by Sarıyer and Şişli, on the west by Kağıthane and Şişli, on the south by Beyoğlu, and on the east by the Bosphorus. Directly across the Bosphorus is the district of Üsküdar. The district includes a number of important sites along the European shore of the Bosphorus, from Dolmabahçe Palace in the south to the Bebek, Istanbul, Bebek area in the north. It is also home to many inland (and relatively expensive, upper-middle class) neighborhoods such as Levent and Etiler. Some of its other well-known neighborhoods include Yıldız, Beşiktaş, Yıldız, Kuruçeşme, Ortaköy, and Arnavutköy. Ortaköy
Ortaköy ( ''Middle Village)'' is a neighbourhood within the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, Turkey, on the European shore of the Bosphorus. it was originally a small fishing village, known in Greek as Agios Fokas (Άγιος Φωκάς) in the Byzantine period and then as Mesachorion (Μεσαχώριον, meaning 'Middle Village'). During the Ottoman era and into the first decades of the Turkish Republic, Ortaköy was a cosmopolitan place with communities of Turks, Greeks, Armenians and Jews. Today although the neighbourhood still retains a Jewish synagogue and Greek Orthodox church, it is almost entirely Turkish and Muslim. Barbaros Boulevard
The Barbaros Boulevard ( tr, Barbaros Bulvarı) is a -long major street in the Beşiktaş district on the European side of Istanbul, Turkey. It runs in a straight line in south–north direction from Beşiktaş Square over Yıldız, Beşiktaş, Yıldız up to Zincirlikuyu, where it passes over to Büyükdere Avenue. It is named after the Ottoman Empire, Ottoman admiral of the fleet Hayreddin Barbarossa ( tr, Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa) (c. 1478–1546), whose tomb is located in Beşiktaş. Yıldız (, literally 'star') is a neighbourhood in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, Turkey. The neighbourhood comprises some of Istanbul's well known historical locations, such as Yıldız Park and Yıldız Palace, the second-largest palace in Istanbul. Kuruçeşme is a neighborhood in Beşiktaş ilçe (district) of İstanbul, Turkey. It is on the European side of Bosphorous between the neighborhoods of Ortaköy and Arnavutköy. Levent is a neighbourhood and one of the main business districts of Istanbul, Turkey, located on the European side of the city. Bebek, Beşiktaş
Bebek is a super-trendy upmarket Istanbul neighbourhood located on Bebek Bay on the European shore of the Bosphorus strait. It falls within the administrative boundaries of Beşiktaş district and is flanked by similarly affluent neighbourhoods such as Arnavutköy and Rumeli Hisarı. 'Bebek' means 'baby' in Turkish. Etiler is a neighbourhood on the European side of Istanbul, Turkey, in the district of Beşiktaş, close to the business quarters of Levent and Maslak. Arnavutköy
Arnavutköy ( Albanian village; el, Μέγα Ρεύμα, Mega Revma) is a neighbourhood in Istanbul, Turkey renowned for its wooden Ottoman mansions and seafood restaurants, as well as for the campus of the prestigious Robert College with its historic buildings. It is part of the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, and is located between Ortaköy and Bebek on the European shoreline of the Bosphorus strait. The existence of a mosque, church and synagogue in close proximity to one another serves as a reminder of Arnavutköy's old, now lost, cosmopolitanism.
