Đào Thiên Hải
Đào Thiên Hải (born 10 May 1978 in Sa Đéc) is a Vietnamese chess player and trainer. In 1995 he became the first Vietnamese player to be awarded the title of Grandmaster. Chess career Đào made his international debut at the age of 11 in the 1989 World Junior Championship in Tunja, Colombia, finishing in equal 30th place with a score of 6/13. He won the 1993 World Under-16 Championship in Bratislava. Following this he was awarded the title of International Master; the Grandmaster title followed in 1995. He participated in three FIDE World Championships knockout events. At the 2000 event in New Delhi, he defeated Ruslan Ponomariov but lost to Michael Adams in the second round. In Moscow in 2001, he lost in the first round to Gilberto Milos. He was once again eliminated in the first round at Tripoli in 2004, this time by Zdenko Kožul. World Chess Championship
The World Chess Championship is played to determine the world champion in chess. The current world champion is Magnus Carlsen of Norway, who has held the title since 2013. The first event recognized as a world championship was the World Chess Championship 1886, 1886 match between the two leading players in the world, Wilhelm Steinitz and Johannes Zukertort. Steinitz won, becoming the first world champion. From 1886 to 1946, the champion set the terms, requiring any challenger to raise a sizable stake and defeat the champion in a match in order to become the new world champion. Chess Olympiad
The Chess Olympiad is a biennial chess tournament in which teams representing nations of the world compete. FIDE organises the tournament and selects the host nation. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, FIDE held an Online Chess Olympiad in 2020 and 2021, with a rapid time control that affected players' online ratings. The use of the name "Chess Olympiad" for FIDE's team championship is of historical origin and implies no connection with the Olympic Games. Birth of the Olympiad The first Olympiad was unofficial. For the 1924 Olympics an attempt was made to include chess in the Olympic Games but this failed because of problems with distinguishing between amateur and professional players. Tan Chin Nam
Dato' Tan Chin Nam (; 18 March 1926 – 21 October 2018) was a Malaysian entrepreneur and developer. His family is the majority shareholder of IGB Corporation Berhad. Tan was reportedly one of the richest men in Malaysia and had several companies and businesses. He is famous as a property developer and was involved in various projects such as Shangri-La Hotel in Malaysia, shopping centres in Singapore and Malaysia, including one of the largest shopping malls in the world, Mid Valley Megamall. In Australia, he is responsible for the renovation of Queen Victoria Building (QVB) and Capitol Theatre in Sydney. He also owns a number of Australian-based Thoroughbred racehorses. Sergei Rublevsky
Sergei Rublevsky (born 15 October 1974) is a Russian chess grandmaster (1994). He has won four team gold medals and one individual bronze medal at Chess Olympiads. He won the prestigious Aeroflot Open in 2004, and became the 58th Russian chess champion after winning the Russian Superfinal in Moscow (18–30 December 2005), one point clear from Dmitry Jakovenko and Alexander Morozevich. He finished in the top 10 in the 2005 FIDE World Cup, which qualified him for the Candidates Tournament for the FIDE World Chess Championship 2007, played in May–June 2007. He defeated Ruslan Ponomariov 3½-2½ in the first round. In the second round he played Alexander Grischuk. The Chess World Cup 2005 served as a qualification tournament for the FIDE World Chess Championship 2007. It was held as a 128-player tournament from 27 November to 17 December 2005 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. The top ten finishers qualified for the candidates matches of the World Chess Championship 2007. One of them (Étienne Bacrot) had already qualified for the candidates matches via rating, freeing the place for the eleventh player at the World Cup ( Vladimir Malakhov). The World Cup was won by Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian. Background The 2005 World Cup was part of the cycle for the World Chess Championship 2007. Zdenko Kožul (born 21 May 1966) is a Croatian chess player. He holds the title of grandmaster (chess), Grandmaster and was the 2006 European champion. Chess career Born in the north-western Bosnian town of Bihać (then Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia), Kožul was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1989. In 1989 and 1990, Kozul won consecutive Yugoslav Chess Championship, Yugoslavian championships. Gilberto Milos (born October 30, 1963) is a Brazilian chess player. He was awarded by FIDE the title of International Master in 1984 and the title of Grandmaster in 1988. Milos competed in the FIDE World Championship five times (1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2004) and in the FIDE World Cup three times (2005, 2007, 2009) Career Milos won the Brazilian Chess Championship in 1984, 1985, 1986, 1989, 1994 and 1995.
