Özker Yaşın
Özker Yaşın (1932–2011) was a Turkish Cypriot poet, author and journalist. He is considered to be one of the leading Turkish Cypriot poets of the period starting from the 1950s, and his work often exhibited a nationalistic line of thought. Biography Yaşın was born in 1932 in the Cypriot capital of Nicosia. His family had originated from the village of Peristerona. He received his primary and secondary education in Istanbul, in the 18th Primary School and the Vefa High School. His first poem in a newspaper was published in 1946, and the first one in a journal was published when he was 17 in journal ''Yeşilada''. In 1950, he returned to Cyprus as a journalist. In 1952, his first poem in the renowned Turkish journal ''Varlık'' was published. Upon his return, he became a very prolific poet who brought "a different outlook" to Turkish Cypriot poetry. Turkish Resistance Organization
The Turkish Resistance Organisation ( tr, Türk Mukavemet Teşkilatı, TMT) was a Turkish Cypriot pro- taksim paramilitary organisation formed by Rauf Denktaş and Turkish military officer Rıza Vuruşkan in 1958 as an organisation to counter the Greek Cypriot Fighter's Organization EOKA (later "EOKA-B"). The name of the organization was changed twice. In 1967 to "Mücahit", and became the Security Forces Command in 1976. Formation The Greek Cypriot paramilitary organization, EOKA started its anti-British activities for Enosis, the union of the island with Greece. This caused a " Cretan syndrome" within the Turkish Cypriot community, as its members feared that they would be forced to leave the island in such a case as was the case with Cretan Turks; as such, they preferred the continuation of the British rule and later, taksim, the division of the island. Behçet Kemal Çağlar
Behçet Kemal Çağlar (1908 – 24 October 1969) was a Turkish poet, educator and nationalist politician. Biography Çağlar graduated as a senior mining engineer in 1929. He served as a regional manager at MTA (Turkish Mining Survey and Research Department), and for a short while, was a Member of Parliament. In 1949 Çağlar published the magazine ''Şadırvan''. He also directed the radio program "Şiir Dünyamız" (meaning Our World of Poetry in Turkish). Common themes in his poetry included Kemalism and populism. Cahit Külebi
Cahit Külebi (20 December 1917, Tokat – 20 June 1997 Ankara) was a leading Turkish people, Turkish poet and author. He has an important place in contemporary Turkish poetry due to his attachment to folk poetry traditions. His poetry is enriched with simple yet ironic language, embellished with original descriptions. Biography Külebi was born in Çeltek, a village of Zile, Tokat Province, Ottoman Empire in 1917. He completed his elementary school in Niksar and his secondary education in Sivas. Then he went to Istanbul and graduated from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature of The School of Higher Education of Teaching (1940). Having finished his education, he worked as a teacher of Turkish literature, literature in Antalya and Ankara. In 1964, he served as a cultural attaché of Turkey in Switzerland. Orhan Veli Kanık or Orhan Veli (14 April 1914 – 14 November 1950) was a Turkish poet. Kanık is one of the founders of the Garip Movement together with Oktay Rıfat and Melih Cevdet. Aiming to fundamentally transform traditional form in Turkish poetry, he introduced colloquialisms into the poetic language. Besides his poetry Kanık crammed an impressive volume of works including essays, articles and translations into 36 short years. Orhan Veli shunned everything old in order to be able to bring about a new 'taste', refusing to use syllable and aruz meters. ''Yeni Düzen'' or ''Yenidüzen'' is a daily newspaper published in Northern Cyprus. Its current editor in chief is Cenk Mutluyakalı. As of July 2014, it consisted of 24 pages and its daily circulation was 4700. The newspaper belongs to the Republican Turkish Party (CTP). It is under the United Media Group along with its sister television channel, Kanal Sim. Regarding its political point of view, Mutluyakalı has stated that while it is nominally owned by the CTP and is a "side" to current events, the newspapers follows an independent line and at times publishes material that is upsetting for the CTP. Fatih () is a district of and a municipality (''belediye'') in Istanbul, Turkey, and home to almost all of the provincial authorities (including the governor's office, police headquarters, metropolitan municipality and tax office) but not the courthouse. Republican Turkish Party
The Republican Turkish Party ( tr, Cumhuriyetçi Türk Partisi, CTP) is a social-democratic political party in Northern Cyprus. The party was founded in 1970 by Ahmet Mithat Berberoğlu, a lawyer, in opposition to the leadership of Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Denktaş. On 30 June 2008, the Republican Turkish Party became a consultative member of the Socialist International (voted in by all members except the Greek Cypriot Movement for Social Democracy). It became a full member of the organization in 2014. Policies and ideology The CTP is a social democratic political party, positioned on the centre-left on the political spectrum.
