Candelario Orlando López Vergara (February 2, 1933 – February 9, 2009), better known as CachaÃto, was a Cuban bassist and composer, who gained international fame after his involvement in the Buena Vista Social Club recordings. He was nicknamed CachaÃto ("little Cachao") after his uncle, the famous bassist and innovator of mambo music Israel "Cachao" López. His father and Cachao's older brother was Orestes López, also a famous bassist/multi-instrumentalist and composer. The music of Cuba, including its instruments, performance, and dance, comprises a large set of unique traditions influenced mostly by west African and European (especially Spanish) music. Due to the syncretic nature of most of its genres, Cuban music is often considered one of the richest and most influential regional music in the world. MartÃn Pedreira
MartÃn Pedreira (born 1952, Havana, Cuba) is a Cuban guitarist, composer and professor. Academic background MartÃn Pedreira began to play the guitar as an autodidact when he was just ten years old. In 1968, he initiated his formal academic studies at the National School of Arts of Havana with Maestro Isaac Nicola and graduated in 1975. Pedreira continued his professional training at the Superior Institute of Arts, in the same city, under the guidance of guitarists Isaac Nicola and Leo Brouwer, where he obtained a graduate diploma in 1983. Pedreira also conducted post-graduate studies with Maestros Alirio DÃaz and MarÃa Luisa Anido.
