The Blitz Brothers
The Blitz Brothers were an English new wave band based in Merseyside, England, comprising Chris Hughes (drums and FX), Dave Bates (vocals), Steve Lovell (guitars) and Hugh Jones (bass). They released two singles, "Gloria" in 1979 and "Rose Tattoo" in 1980. By this time they had founded the subsidiary label Back Door, which signed the synthpop band Dalek I Love You. The band helped to produce and collaborate in the "Dalek I Love You (Destiny)" single and the debut album ''Compass Kumpas ''Compass Kumpas'' (aka ''Compass kum'pəs'') was the first album from Dalek I Love You (band), Dalek I Love You, shortened to Dalek I for this album and accompanying singles. New Wave Music
New wave is a loosely defined music genre that encompasses pop-oriented styles from the late 1970s and the 1980s. It was originally used as a catch-all for the various styles of music that emerged after punk rock, including punk itself. Later, critical consensus favored "new wave" as an umbrella term involving many popular music styles of the era, including power pop, synth-pop, ska revival, and more specific forms of punk rock that were less abrasive. Adam And The Ants
Adam and the Ants were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. The group existed in two incarnations, both fronted by Adam Ant, over the period 1977 to 1982. The first, founded in May 1977 and known simply as The Ants until November of that year, transitioned from the punk rock to the post-punk and new wave era and released one album. The final line-up of this incarnation—Dave Barbarossa, Matthew Ashman, and Leigh Gorman—left the band in January 1980 at the suggestion of manager Malcolm McLaren to form Bow Wow Wow. The second incarnation of Adam and the Ants featured guitarist Marco Pirroni and drummer/producer Chris Hughes, and was noted for its use of Burundi drums. Christopher Merrick Hughes (born 3 March 1954, London, England), also known as Merrick, is a British music producer, songwriter, and drummer for Adam and the Ants. Best known as producer of Tears for Fears' ''Songs from the Big Chair'', and as the co-writer of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", Hughes has a joint background as a musician, songwriter and producer. His career began with Adam and The Ants as drummer and producer of the "Cartrouble" and "Kings of the Wild Frontier" singles, then the ''Kings of the Wild Frontier'' album. Yielding three hit singles, the album earned Hughes ''Music Week''s 'Producer of the Year Award'. Life and career Hughes was educated at Emanuel School in London, and was a member of Adam and the Ants, also producing their albums, ''Kings of the Wild Frontier'' and ''Prince Charming''. Dalek I Love You
Dalek I Love You were a synthpop group from the Wirral, England. At various points in their existence, the band was also known as Dalek I. Record executives at Phonogram shortened the band's name without telling them for the "Freedom Fighters" single. History Roots: Mr. McKenzie and Radio Blank By the mid-1970s, David Balfe, Alan Gill and Keith Hartley, three residents of Thingwall on the Wirral Peninsula, had formed a band called Mr. McKenzie. In November 1976, as punk was emerging and influencing them, the group changed their name to Radio Blank, composed of Balfe (bass and keyboards), Gill (guitar and vocals) and Hartley (lead vocals and guitar) as well as Stephen Brick (drums). They played their own material and also some covers, such as "You Really Got Me" and "Peaches". Five of their 15 live gigs were at Eric's Club in Liverpool. Compass Kumpas
''Compass Kumpas'' (aka ''Compass kum'pəs'') was the first album from Dalek I Love You (band), Dalek I Love You, shortened to Dalek I for this album and accompanying singles. It was released on May 24, 1980, by Back Door/Phonogram Records, Phonogram records. In 1983, the band recorded a second self-titled album using its full name: ''Dalek I Love You (album), Dalek I Love You''. In 1989 ''Compass Kumpas'' was reissued on CD (Fontana 836 894–2) with four bonus tracks. Reception Sounding like a combination of early Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Gary Numan and Brian Eno, the album received fairly good reviews upon its release. The ''NME'' called the album "refreshingly wry and friendly". However, Red Starr, writing in ''Smash Hits'', described the album as a "characterless, colourless collection.
