Quadrifora is a type of four-light window. It appears in towers and belfries on top floors, where it is necessary to lighten the structure with wider openings. The quadrifora can also be a group closely set windows. Overview The quadrifora is divided vertically in four parts by three small columns or pilasters, on which four arches rest, round or pointed. Bifora (architecture)
A bifora is a type of window divided vertically in two openings by a small column or a mullion or a pilaster; the openings are topped by arches, round or pointed. Sometimes the bifora is framed by a further arch; the space between the two arches may be decorated with a coat of arms or a small circular opening (oculus). The bifora was used in Byzantine architecture, including Italian buildings such as the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, in Ravenna. Typical of the Romanesque and Gothic periods, in which it became an ornamental motif for windows and belfries, the bifora was also often used during the Renaissance period. In Baroque architecture and Neoclassical architecture the bifora was largely forgotten, or replaced by elements like the three openings of the Venetian window. Palazzo Mastelli del Cammello is a Gothic palace in Venice, Italy. It is located in Cannaregio district, on the Campo dei Mori and the Rio Madonna dell'Orto. History The building formerly belonged to three silk and spices merchant brothers (Rioba, Sandi, and Afani), who relocated from the Peloponnese to Venice around 1112 and then adopted the name Mastelli. They are traditionally associated with four statues of the three Moors and their servant on the Campo dei Mori. The initial construction of the palace dates back to the 12th century. Architecture The palazzo facade has three levels and is covered with gray stucco. The ground floor has a water portal flanked by lancet and arched windows. At the bottom right, there is a small fountain made in Arabian style, that, until a few years ago, was used to drink water while staying on the boat or gondola. A window is an opening in a wall, door, roof, or vehicle that allows the exchange of light and may also allow the passage of sound and sometimes air. Palazzo Ariani
Palazzo Ariani, also known as Palazzo Ariani Minotto Cicogna (in Venetian, Palazzo Arian), is a palace in Venice, located in the Dorsoduro district, almost opposite to the church of Angelo San Raffaele and not far from San Sebastiano. The nearby bridge Ponte del Soccorso connects it to the Palazzo Zenobio. History The present palazzo was built in the 14th century on an ancient foundation of the first palace that was built in the 9th century. The building was home of the prominent Arian family, ascribed to the Venetian aristocracy, until its dying out in the 17th century. The last heir was Giacomo Arian who died about 1650. Then the palazzo passed to the Pasqualigo family. After numerous changes of ownership, the building ended up being owned by Lucia Cicogna, a nun who converted the building from a residence to a college for girls.
