Millet Wine
Millet wine () is a common wine in East and Southeast Asia. It is also the oldest wine in Taiwan and a traditional beverage of Taiwanese aborigines. It is often used in harvest festivals, as a symbol of harvest. Cultural background For aboriginal culture, millet wine is a cultural symbol. Millet wine is a key part of aboriginal rituals such as Millet Festival, Black Rice Festival, Harvest Festival and Dwarf Spiritual Sacrifice (Pas-ta'ai). Each aboriginal group in Taiwan has its own god or goddess dedicated to millet and their own name for millet wine. For example, the Atayal tribe call it “Qohozi” and the Puyuma tribe call it "Tinuerau". Libation of millet wine is believed to bring good luck and aid in avoiding evil. Every aboriginal group has developed specific millet wine drinking rites. Pas-ta'ai
Pas-ta'ai (Chinese: 矮靈祭; pinyin: ''Ǎilíngjì''), the “Ritual to the Spirits of the Short eople, is a ritual of the Saisiyat people, a Taiwanese aboriginal group. The ritual commemorates the ''Ta'ai'', a tribe of short dark-skinned people they say used to live near them. The ritual is held every two years and all Saisiyat are expected to participate. History The Pas-ta'ai ritual is purported to have been practiced for 400 years and was initially practiced every year during the harvest season. Taiwanese Wine
Taiwanese wine is grape wine made in the country of Taiwan. History Independent winemaking was illegal in Taiwan for a long time due to the monopoly granted to the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation. Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation produced just one wine, a rosé. With liberalization following the end of military rule independent winemakers became legal in 2002 and in 2014 a Taiwanese wine won its first gold medal at an international competition. The primary grapes cultivated for winemaking in Taiwan are Black Queen and Golden Muscat which were both introduced to the country in the 1950s. The relative rarity and high quality of Taiwanese wines makes them particularly prized by Hong Kong collectors. Ma La Sun () is a brand of millet wine, originally used in Taiwanese Film director Wei Te-sheng's movie 《Cape No. 7》. The phrase "Ma La Sun" originally means "drunk" in Ami language. Paiwan People
The Paiwan () are an indigenous people of Taiwan. They speak the Paiwan language. In 2014, the Paiwan numbered 96,334. This was approximately 17.8% of Taiwan's total indigenous population, making them the second-largest indigenous group. The majority of Paiwan people live in the southern chain of the Central Mountain Range, from Damumu Mountain and the upper Wuluo River in the north of the southern chain to the Hengchun Peninsula in the south of it, and also in the hills and coastal plains of southeastern Taiwan. Puyuma People
The Puyuma (), also known as the Pinuyumayan, Peinan or Beinan, are one of the indigenous groups of the Taiwanese aborigines. The people are generally divided into the Chihpen and Nanwang groups, both resident in Taitung County on the east coast of Taiwan. In the year 2000, the Puyuma numbered 9,606. This was approximately 2.4% of Taiwan's total indigenous population, making them the sixth-largest indigenous group. The Puyuma speak the Puyuma language, as well as Mandarin and Taiwanese Hokkien.
