Living Campaign
Living campaigns, or shared campaigns, are a gaming format within the table-top role-playing games, role-playing game community that provide the opportunity for play by an extended community within a shared universe. In contrast to traditional isolated role-playing games, living campaigns allow and encourage players to develop characters that can be played at games run by many different game masters, but which share a game world and campaign settings, campaign setting, as well as a plot line that is overseen by a central core of professional or volunteer editors and contributors. Many living campaigns serve a dual role of providing a creative outlet for highly involved volunteer contributors while also serving as a marketing tool for the publisher of the game system that is the focus of the living campaign. Role-playing Games
A role-playing game (sometimes spelled roleplaying game, RPG) is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making regarding character development. Actions taken within many games succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. There are several forms of role-playing games. Game Setting Numenera is set on Earth approximately one billion years in the future. Editions Of Dungeons & Dragons
Several different editions of the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (''D&D'') fantasy role-playing game have been produced since 1974. The current publisher of ''D&D'', Wizards of the Coast, produces new materials only for the most current edition of the game. However, many ''D&D'' fans continue to play older versions of the game and some third-party companies continue to publish materials compatible with these older editions. Star Wars Roleplaying Game (Wizards Of The Coast)
The ''Star Wars Roleplaying Game'' is a d20 System roleplaying game set in the '' Star Wars'' universe. The game was written by Bill Slavicsek, Andy Collins and J. D. Wiker and published by Wizards of the Coast in late 2000 and revised in 2002. In 2007, Wizards released the '' Saga Edition'' of the game, which made major changes in an effort to streamline the rules system. The game covers three major eras coinciding with major events in the ''Star Wars'' universe, namely the Rise of the Empire, the Galactic Civil War, and the time of the New Jedi Order. An earlier but unrelated ''Star Wars'' role-playing game was published by West End Games between 1987 and 1999. Bill Slavicsek was one of the designers of that former game as well. Masque Of The Red Death (Ravenloft)
Masque of the Red Death is a campaign setting for the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' role-playing game, named after the Edgar Allan Poe short story of the same name. The setting was published after the release of the ''Ravenloft'' campaign setting in 1994 as ''Masque of the Red Death and Other Tales'', and is regarded as an add-on for that line. ''Masque of the Red Death'' has many of the same qualities as ''Ravenloft'', such as "power checks" and restricted magic, including limited planar travel. Unlike Ravenloft, the location of the adventures is ''Gothic Earth'', an 1890s version of Earth where fantasy creatures exist only in the shadows of civilization. Many notable real-life figures or 19th century literary characters are included for the players to interact with, including Van Helsing, Jack the Ripper and Dorian Gray. Faerûn
Faerûn is a fictional continent and the primary setting of the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' world of ''Forgotten Realms''.
