List Of Political Parties In Sardinia
Several political parties operate in Sardinia. No party has ever had the chance of gaining power alone and thus parties must work with each other to form coalition governments. The political parties are currently organized mainly in two political coalitions at the regional level: once centred on the Sardinian Action Party and Lega Sardegna, the other around Democratic Party. Because of their ideological and political factionalism, the Sardinian nationalist parties have played a marginal role in the electoral scene. A political party is an organization that coordinates candidates to compete in a particular country's elections. It is common for the members of a party to hold similar ideas about politics, and parties may promote specific political ideology, ideological or policy goals. Political parties have become a major part of the politics of almost every country, as modern party organizations developed and spread around the world over the last few centuries. It is extremely rare for a country to have Non-partisan democracy, no political parties. Some countries have Single-party state, only one political party while others have Multi-party system, several. Italian Left
Italian Left ( it, Sinistra Italiana, SI) is a left-wing political party in Italy. SI was launched in November 2015 as a parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies (full name: Italian Left – Left Ecology Freedom), including Left Ecology Freedom (SEL), dissidents from the Democratic Party like Future to the Left, and splinters from the Five Star Movement. At its launch, SI included 32 deputies, who were soon followed by 8 senators (who formed a sub-group within the Mixed Group of the Senate in February 2016), and 2 MEPs. SI was officially formed as a full-fledged party in February 2017, after SEL had chosen to merge into it in December 2016. The party is led by Nicola Fratoianni. Italian Socialist Party (2007)
The Italian Socialist Party ( it, Partito Socialista Italiano, PSI) is a social-democratic political party in Italy. The party was founded in 2007–2008 by the merger of the following social-democratic parties and groups: Enrico Boselli's Italian Democratic Socialists (legal successor of the Italian Socialist Party), the faction of the New Italian Socialist Party led by Gianni De Michelis, The Italian Socialists of Bobo Craxi, Democracy and Socialism of Gavino Angius, the Association for the Rose in the Fist of Lanfranco Turci, ''Socialism is Freedom'' of Rino Formica and some other minor organizations. Christian Popular Union
The Christian Popular Union ( it, Unione Popolare Cristiana, UPC) is a Christian-democratic political party in Italy. The UPC was launched in August 2009 by Antonio Satta, a former Christian Democrat who had been the regional leader of UDEUR and, later, of the Sardinian Autonomist Populars. The party is based in Sardinia, but has a national structure, consisting primarily of former members of the UDEUR, notably including Gianfranco Saraca, Luca Bagliani, Danilo Bertoli, Sergio Deorsola, and Antonio Potenza (leader of Basilicata's United Populars). In the 2010 Sardinian provincial elections the party did especially well in northern Sardinia: 10.7% in Sassari and 6.2% in Olbia-Tempio. Sardinian Democratic Union
The Union of Sardinians – Nationalist Project (''Unione dei Sardi – Progetto Nazionalitario'', UDS–PN) is a regionalist Christian-democratic political party in Sardinia. Its leader is Mario Floris, a former Christian Democrat who was President of the Region from 1999 to 2001. History The Sardinian Democratic Union was founded in 1998 as Sardinian section of Democratic Union for the Republic of Francesco Cossiga, a Sardinian who had been Prime Minister and President of Italy. In the 1999 regional election Floris won 6.2% as candidate for president, while the party won 4.1% and three regional councillors. Fortza Paris ("Forward Together") is a regionalist political party in Sardinia. The party was launched in 2004 at the merger of the Sardinian People's Party (PPS), Sardistas and Unity of Sardinian People. Its self-proclaimed ideology comprises "all what the 20th Century had it good", including Christian democracy, liberalism, social democracy and federalism, but it is basically a Christian-democratic party. In fact, its main component, the PPS, had emerged from the regional section of the United Christian Democrats. Sardigna Natzione Indipendentzia ("For the Independence of the Sardinian Nation"), also known as Sardigna Natzione or SN, is a minor separatist and socialist political party in Sardinia, Italy. Its long-time leader is Bustianu Cumpostu. History The party was founded by Anghelu Caria in 1994, in continuity with the Independentist Sardinian Party (PSIn), of which Caria had been founder and leader. After Caria's sudden death, Bustianu Cumpostu was elected new leader by defeating Gavino Sale, who would lead the party's left-wing faction for five years, before leaving in 2001. Independence Republic of Sardinia ( sc, Indipendèntzia Repùbrica de Sardigna, iRS) was a Sardist, left-wing nationalist and social-democratic and non-violent separatist political party in Sardinia. The party, whose long-time leader is Gavino Sale, supports the establishment of a "Republic of Sardinia" and its independence from Italy. Red Moors
Red Moors ( it, Rossomori, RM) is a regionalist (separatist), social-democratic political party in Sardinia. The party was founded in 2009 as a left-wing split from the Sardinian Action Party (Psd'Az), after the Psd'Az had signed an electoral pact with The People of Freedom, the main centre-right party in Italy. In the 2009 regional election the RM won 2.5% of the vote, despite not being on the ballot in three provincial constituencies out of eight, and one regional councillor, Claudia Zuncheddu. ''Unidos'' (translation from Sardinian: "United") is a centre-right separatist political party in Sardinia. History The party was launched by Mauro Pili, a long-time member of centre-right parties like Forza Italia (FI) and The People of Freedom (PdL) and a former President of Sardinia (1999, 2001–2003), in November 2011. Originally a faction within the PdL, Unidos soon became a party upon Pili's exit from that party in October 2013. As Pili had been elected to the Chamber of Deputies in the 2013 general election, Unidos was represented in Parliament until 2018. Project Republic of Sardinia ( sc, Progetu Repùblica de Sardigna, ProgReS) is a separatist political party in Sardinia, founded in January 2011 following a split from Independence Republic of Sardinia (iRS). The party's current secretary is Luigi Todde, while Adriano Sollai serve as its presidents. History In January 2011, after a struggle with Gavino Sale, president of iRS, the faction led by former leader Ornella Demuru, including iRS founding members Frantziscu Sanna and Franciscu Sedda, decided to leave the party and launch a "Republican Constituent Assembly" (''Sa Costituente Repubricana''). Italia in Comune (IiC, English: ''Italy in Common'') is a green and progressive political party in Italy. It was founded in April 2018 by mayor of Parma Federico Pizzarotti, other former members of the Five Star Movement and local non-party independent politicians generally affiliated with the centre-left coalition.
