Concept Album
A concept album is an album whose tracks hold a larger purpose or meaning collectively than they do individually. This is typically achieved through a single central narrative or theme, which can be instrumental, compositional, or lyrical. Sometimes the term is applied to albums considered to be of "uniform excellence" rather than an LP with an explicit musical or lyrical motif. There is no consensus among music critics as to the specific criteria for what a "concept album" is. The format originates with folk singer Woody Guthrie's ''Dust Bowl Ballads'' (1940) and was subsequently popularized by traditional pop/jazz singer Frank Sinatra's 1940s–50s string of albums, although the term is more often associated with rock music. In the 1960s several well-regarded concept albums were released by various rock bands, which eventually led to the invention of progressive rock and rock opera. The Call Of The Wretched Sea
''The Call of the Wretched Sea'' is the debut album by the German funeral doom band Ahab. It was released in October 2006. History ''The Call of the Wretched Sea'' is Ahab's first studio album. It was the band's first recording since their first two demos. To record the album, they recruited Corny Althammer as session drummer. Production, engineering, mastering and mixing tasks were carried out by Stephan Adolph. It was released on 10 October 2006 through Napalm Records. Double-LP versions of this album were released through Deviant Records; there were 100 copies in green vinyl, 100 copies in red vinyl, and 300 copies in black vinyl. Music The album has been treated as an example of what funeral doom metal represents. It features slow synthesizer melodies, downtuned guitars, echoing percussion, and deep and guttural vocals. Stereotomy
''Stereotomy'' is the ninth studio album by The Alan Parsons Project, released in 1985. Not as commercially successful as its predecessor ''Vulture Culture'', the album is structured differently from earlier Project albums: containing three lengthy tracks ("Stereotomy" at over seven minutes, "Light of the World" at over six minutes, and the instrumental "Where's the Walrus?" running over seven and a half minutes) and two minute-long songs at the end. It is a full digital production and both the LP and CD releases were encoded using the two-channel Ambisonic UHJ format. The original vinyl packaging was different from all the reissues: it featured more elaborate artwork of the paper sleeve supplied with a special color-filter oversleeve. When inserted, the over-sleeve filtered some of the colors of the artwork, allowing four different variations (two per side). That was supposed to symbolize visual stereotomy. I Robot (album)
''I Robot'' is the second studio album by British rock band The Alan Parsons Project, released on 8 July 1977 by Arista Records. The album draws conceptually on author Isaac Asimov's science fiction ''Robot'' stories, exploring philosophical themes regarding artificial intelligence. It was re-released on vinyl and cassette tape in 1984 and on CD in 2007. Background and concept The album was intended to be based on the ''I, Robot'' stories written by Asimov, and Eric Woolfson spoke with Asimov himself, who was enthusiastic about the idea. As the rights already had been granted to a TV/movie company, the album's title was altered slightly by removing the comma in "I,", and the theme and lyrics were made to be more generically about robots rather than to be specific to the Asimov universe. Gaudi (The Alan Parsons Project Album)
''Gaudi'' is the tenth album by The Alan Parsons Project, released in 1987. ''Gaudi'' refers to Antoni Gaudí, the Catalan Spanish architect, and the opening track references what is probably Gaudí's best known building, the ''Sagrada Família''. Project regular David Paton was unable to undertake bass duties on this recording due to a prior touring commitment with Elton John. Saxophonist-keyboardist Richard Cottle's brother, Laurie, was recruited to play bass. The album was recorded at the Grange in Norfolk and Mayfair Studios in London using a pair of Sony 3324 DASH digital tape recorders and mixed to a digital master. This was the final canonical Alan Parsons Project studio album, as well as vocalist Lenny Zakatek's final contribution to any Parsons album. ''Ammonia Avenue'' is the seventh studio album by the British progressive rock band The Alan Parsons Project, released on 7 February 1984 by Arista Records. The Phil Spector-influenced "Don't Answer Me" was the album's lead single, and reached the Top 15 on the US Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts, as well as the fourth position on the Adult Contemporary chart. The Alan Parsons Project
The Alan Parsons Project was a British rock band active between 1975 and 1990, whose core membership consisted of producer, audio engineer, musician and composer Alan Parsons and singer, songwriter and pianist Eric Woolfson. They were accompanied by varying session musicians and some relatively consistent session players such as guitarist Ian Bairnson, arranger Andrew Powell, bassist and vocalist David Paton, drummer Stuart Elliott, and vocalists Lenny Zakatek and Chris Rainbow. Parsons and Woolfson shared writing credits on almost all of the Project's songs, with Parsons producing or co-producing all of the band's recordings. The Alan Parsons Project released eleven studio albums in its 15-year career, the most successful being '' I Robot'' (1977) and '' Eye in the Sky'' (1982). ''The Time Machine'' is the third solo album by English rock musician Alan Parsons. While the sound of this album is similar to some of the soft, ethereal tracks by the Alan Parsons Project, none of the writing or performance credits in the sleeve notes go to Alan Parsons, except for one short and simple instrumental part on "Temporalia" (the other instrumentals were written by drummer Stuart Elliott and guitarist Ian Bairnson), the Japanese bonus track "Beginnings" which also features his voice, and organ on "No Future in the Past"; his relation to the album is almost exclusively as producer. The album lacks much of the rock edge of the previous albums up to and including '' On Air''. Alan Parsons
Alan Parsons (born 20 December 1948) is an English audio engineer, songwriter, musician and record producer. Parsons was involved with the production of several notable albums, including the Beatles' ''Abbey Road'' (1969) and ''Let It Be'' (1970), Pink Floyd's ''The Dark Side of the Moon'' (1973), and the eponymous debut album by Ambrosia in 1975. Parsons's own group, The Alan Parsons Project, as well as his subsequent solo recordings, have also been commercially successful. He has been nominated for 13 Grammy Awards, with his first win occurring in 2019 for Best Immersive Audio Album for '' Eye in the Sky'' (35th Anniversary Edition). Music career In October 1967, at the age of 18, Parsons went to work as an assistant engineer at Abbey Road Studios.
