Light-welterweight
Light welterweight, also known as junior welterweight or super lightweight, is a weight class in combat sports. Boxing Professional boxing In professional boxing, light welterweight is contested between the lightweight and welterweight divisions, in which boxers weigh above 61.2kg or 135 pounds and up to 63.5 kg or 140 pounds. The first champion of this weight class was Pinky Mitchell in 1946, though he was only awarded his championship by a vote of the readers of the ''Boxing Blade'' magazine. There was not widespread acceptance of this new weight division in its early years, and the New York State Athletic Commission withdrew recognition of it in 1930. The National Boxing Association continued to recognize it until its champion, Barney Ross relinquished the title in 1935 to concentrate on regaining the welterweight championship. Josh Taylor (boxer)
Josh Taylor (born 2 January 1991) is a Scottish professional boxer. He is the WBO and ''Ring'' magazine light-welterweight world champion, having held the ''Ring'' title since 2019, and the WBO title since 2021. He previously held the WBA (Super) title from 2019 to May 2022; the WBC title from 2021 to July 2022; and the IBF title from 2019 to August 2022. At regional level he held the Commonwealth light-welterweight title from 2016 to 2017, and as an amateur boxer he won a lightweight silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and light-welterweight gold at the 2014 edition. Jack Catterall (born 1 July 1993) is an English professional boxer who held the British light-welterweight title in 2017 and challenged for the undisputed light-welterweight title in February 2022. Early life Jack Catterall was born on 1 July 1993 in Chorley, Lancashire. José Carlos Ramírez (born August 12, 1992) is an American professional boxer. He is a former unified light welterweight champion, having held the WBC title from 2018 to May 2021 and the WBO title from 2019 to May 2021. As an amateur he was the number one rated in the WBC lightweight in the United States and represented the U.S at the 2012 Olympics. As of June 2020, he is ranked as the world's second best active light welterweight by ''The Ring'' and BoxRec, and third by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board. Alberto Puello Calderón (born 22 July 1994) is a Dominican professional boxer who has held the WBA super lightweight title since August 2022. Aaron Pryor (October 20, 1955 – October 9, 2016) was an American professional boxer who competed from 1976 to 1990. He was a two-time light welterweight world champion, having held the WBA title from 1980 to 1983, and the IBF title from 1984 to 1985. Pinky Mitchell was an American boxer who became the first champion in the light welterweight division by receiving the most votes by ballot on November 15, 1922. He held the title until 1926.
