Yuan Longping (; September 7, 1930May 22, 2021) was a Chinese agronomist and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering known for developing the first hybrid rice varieties in the 1970s, part of the Green Revolution in agriculture. For his contributions, Yuan is known as the "Father of Hybrid Rice". Hybrid rice has since been grown in dozens of countries in Africa, America, and Asia—boosting food security and providing a robust food source in areas with a high risk of famine. Li Zhengyou
Li Zhengyou (; July 1935 – 4 April 2018) was a Chinese agronomist and politician. A professor of Yunnan Agricultural University, he created the Dian-type hybrid rice and was called the "father of high-altitude hybrid rice". He served as Vice-Governor of Yunnan Province from 1983 to 1988, and Chairman of the Yunnan Science and Technology Society. Biography Li Zhengyou was born in Chongqing in July 1935, with his ancestral home in Gao County, Sichuan Province. He studied at Southwest Agricultural University (now part of Southwest University) from 1956 to 1960, and joined the faculty of Yunnan Agricultural University in August 1961. Starting as a lecturer, he later became a professor and director of the university's Rice Research Institute. Wild Rice
Wild rice, also called manoomin, Canada rice, Indian rice, or water oats, is any of four species of grasses that form the genus ''Zizania'', and the grain that can be harvested from them.
