Groove Spot
Groovespot (more properly groove spot) is a disco funk band based in Richmond, Virginia. Founded in 1997 by Greg Hill and Thomas Young, the band became one of central Virginia's most popular acts selling out shows in nightclubs and festivals. Origins The original band comprised Sean Shields, Chris Perkins, Steve Bider, David Allam along with Greg Hill and Young. By 1998, the group was headlining local festivals such as Friday Cheers, Innsbrook, and First Fridays in Roanoke. Additionally, they were support artists for national acts such as Average White Band, Jefferson Starship, Tower of Power, Parliament, 10000 Maniacs, KC and the Sunshine Band, and Eddie Money. Average White Band
The Average White Band (also known as AWB) are a Scottish funk and R&B band that had a series of soul and disco hits between 1974 and 1980. They are best known for their million-selling instrumental track " Pick Up the Pieces", and their albums '' AWB'' and '' Cut the Cake''. The band name was initially proposed by Bonnie Bramlett. They have influenced others, such as the Brand New Heavies, and been sampled by various musicians, including the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, TLC, The Beatnuts, Too Short, Ice Cube, Eric B. & Rakim, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Leena Conquest, Christina Milian, and Arrested Development, making them the 15th most sampled act in history. Jefferson Starship is an American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1974 by a group of musicians including former members of Jefferson Airplane. Between 1974 and 1984, they released eight gold or platinum-selling studio albums, and one gold-selling compilation. Fighting Gravity is an American music group based out of Richmond, Virginia, United States. Originally a ska band called Boy O Boy, Fighting Gravity has incorporated a variety of music into their style, including reggae, rock, and pop. The Ernies were a popular American alternative rock/ska punk band from Richmond, Virginia. They released two albums on an independent label before signing to Mojo Records and releasing their third album entitled ''Meson Ray''. History The Ernies were formed in 1994 by four students of Virginia Commonwealth University: Will Hummel, Tom Martin, Matt Goves, and Hayes Smith.
