Gianduiotto
The gianduiotto (; pms, giandojòt ) is chocolate originally from Piedmont, in northern Italy. Gianduiotti are shaped like ingots and individually wrapped in a (usually) gold- or silver-colored foil cover. It is a specialty of Turin, and takes its name from '' gianduja'', the preparation of chocolate and hazelnut used for gianduiotti and other sweets (including Nutella and bicerin di Gianduiotto). This preparation itself is named after Gianduja, a mask in commedia dell'arte, a type of Italian theater, that represents the archetypal Piedmontese. Indeed, Gianduja's hat inspired the shape of the gianduiotto. Gianduiotti are produced from a paste of sugar, cocoa and hazelnut ''Tonda Gentile delle Langhe''. Caffarel
Caffarel is a chocolate-manufacturing company based in Luserna San Giovanni, Italy, which is a subsidiary of Lindt & Sprüngli. The company was founded in Turin during the 19th century. According to the company, it was founded in 1826 when Pierre Paul Caffarel (1801–1871) converted an ex-tannery into a chocolate factory and invented Gianduiotto in 1852. In 1826 Caffarel purchased a revolutionary industrial machine, invented by Bozelli of Genoa, which was able to produce more than 300 kilos a day (a record then). Thanks to this machine, he established the first company to sell large quantities of solid chocolate. The second commercial success was Gianduja. In 1852 Caffarel introduced a new type of chocolate, made by mixing cocoa, sugar and ''Tonda Gentile delle Langhe'' hazelnuts (renowned for their taste). Gianduja (; pms, Giandoja ) is one of the masks of the Italian commedia dell'arte, typically representing the town of Turin (and Piedmont in general). Nutella (; ; ) is a brand of sweetened hazelnut Cocoa solids, cocoa Spread (food), spread. Nutella is manufactured by the Italian company Ferrero SpA, Ferrero and was first introduced in 1964, although its first iteration dates to 1963. History Pietro Ferrero owned a bakery in Alba, Piedmont, Alba, an Italian town known for the production of hazelnuts. Bicerin
Bicerin () is a traditional hot drink native to Turin, Italy, made of espresso, drinking chocolate, and milk served layered in a small glass. Origin The word is and is the equivalent of Italian (diminutive of , 'glass'). This coffee beverage has existed since the 18th century and was praised by Alexandre Dumas in 1852. It is believed to be based on the 17th century drink ''bavarèisa'' ("Bavarian"): the key distinction is that in a bicerin the three components are carefully layered in the glass rather than being mixed together. Caffè al Bicerin, which sits across from the Santuario della Consolata in Turin's piazza della Consolata, has been serving the drink since the 18th century.
