Football In Sudan
The sport of football (soccer), football in the East African country of Sudan is managed by the Sudan Football Association. The association administers the Sudan national football team, national football team, as well as the Sudan Premier League, Premier League. The Sudan Football Association, which was founded in 1946, and FIFA affiliated in 1948, was one of the founding members of the Confederation of African Football, and continues to be a member of the Confederation. Like in many countries, football is the most popular sport also in Sudan. Since at least 2006, there was also an inofficial Sudan women's national football team, trained by a male coach. Since September 2019, there has been an official national league for women's football clubs that started on the basis of informal women's clubs since the beginning of the 2000s. Sudan Football Association
The Sudan Football Association (S.F.A.) ( ar, الإتحاد السوداني لكرة القدم) is the governing body of football in Sudan. It was established in 1936 and affiliated with FIFA in 1948. Along with the national associations of Egypt, Ethiopia and South Africa, the Sudan Football Association was one of the founding members of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in 1957. The International Federation of Football Associations, FIFA, decided to suspend the activities of the Sudan Football Association (SFA) starting from Friday 30 June 2017. The suspension was lifted on Thursday 13 July 2017. Al-Merrikh SC
Al-Merrikh Sporting Club ( ar, نادي المريخ الرياضي) is a Sudanese football club based in Omdurman. Their home stadium is Al-Merrikh Stadium, which is locally known as The Red Castle. Founded in 1908, Al-Merrikh is one of the oldest football clubs in Africa, and have won the Sudan Premier League 16 times and Sudan Cup 14 times. The club share a fierce rivalry with Al-Hilal, the games between them regularly selling out, as well as being the only other realistic challenger to the league crown. They won the Om-al-Dahab championship in 1965 and have been the only team to have ever won this one time event. Al-Ittihad Sport Club ( ar, نادي الاتحاد الرياضي), is an Iraqi football team based in Al-Ashar, Basra, that plays in Iraq Division Three.
