Dynasty
A dynasty is a sequence of rulers from the same family,''Oxford English Dictionary'', "dynasty, ''n''." Oxford University Press (Oxford), 1897. usually in the context of a monarchical system, but sometimes also appearing in republics. A dynasty may also be referred to as a "house", "family" or "clan", among others. Historians periodize the histories of many states and civilizations, such as Ancient Iran (3200 - 539 BC), Ancient Egypt (3100 – 30 BC) and Ancient and Imperial China (2070 BC – AD 1912), using a framework of successive dynasties. As such, the term "dynasty" may be used to delimit the era during which a family reigned. Before the 18th century, most dynasties throughout the world have traditionally been reckoned patrilineally, such as those that follow the Frankish Salic law. In polities where it was permitted, succession through a daughter usually established a new dynasty in her husband's family name. This has changed in all of Europe's remaining mo ...

Dynasty (sports)
In sports, a dynasty is a team or individual that dominates their sport or league for an extended length of time. Some leagues usually maintain official lists of dynasties, often as part of a hall of fame, but in many cases, whether a team or individual has achieved a dynasty is subjective. This can result in frequent topic of debate among sports fans due to lack of consensus and agreement in the many different variables and criteria that fans may use to define a sports dynasty. Merriam-Webster describes a dynasty as a "sports franchise which has a prolonged run of successful seasons". Within the same sport, or even the same league, dynasties may be concurrent with each other. Association football Club American Major League Soccer * D.C. Dynasty (1977–1989) was a dark bay Hanoverian gelding, ridden for Canada by Cindy Neale-Ishoy in dressage competitions. During their competition career, the pair won medals at the Olympic Games and the World Cup Finals. Dynasty died in 1989 following a colic surgery. Early life The dark bay Hanoverian gelding was bred in 1977 by German Karl Jantzen. His sire was Darling and his dam was Minuett (by Marmor). Originally named Disco 16, he was acquired for Canadian Cindy Neale-Ishoy by her long time supporters and sponsors Charles and Janet Burns in 1981. Although the prime time soap opera of the same name was on the air at the time, Cindy was not aware of its existence, having been living in Germany and having no interest in that kind of show. "The last thing I would ever do is name a horse after a soap.", ...
