The Beast (Revelation)
The Beast ( grc-x-koine, Θηρίον, ) may refer to one of two beasts described in the Book of Revelation. In Revelation 13:1-10, the first beast (interpreted as the Antichrist) rises "out of the sea" and is given authority and power by the dragon. This first beast is initially mentioned in Revelation 11:7 as emerging from the abyss. His appearance is described in detail in Revelation 13:1–10, and some of the mystery surrounding it is revealed in Revelation 17:7–18. In Revelation 13:11–18, the second beast (the false prophet) comes "out of the earth" and forces everyone on earth to worship the first beast. In their fight against God, the two beasts join forces with the dragon. "The Beast", known by the Japanese title is the second episode of the anime ''Neon Genesis Evangelion'', created by Gainax. The episode was written by the series director Hideaki Anno and Yōji Enokido and directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki. It aired originally on TV Tokyo on October 11, 1995. The series is set fifteen years after a worldwide cataclysm, particularly in the futuristic fortified city of Tokyo-3. The protagonist is Shinji Ikari, a teenage boy who is recruited by his father Gendo to the organization Nerv to pilot a giant bio-machine mecha named Evangelion into combat with beings called Angels. During the episode, Shinji faces the Angel Sachiel but freezes with fear and fails to defend his Eva-01, which is left damaged and inoperable.
