Pierre Mahé
Pierre Marie Mahé (1833 – 2 February 1913"Death of M. Pierre Mahe" in '' The London Philatelist'', Vol.22, 1913, p. 38.) was French stamp dealer who was acknowledged as one of the ''Fathers of Philately'' on the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists. Association with Philipp von Ferrary Mahé owned a succession of stamp shops in Paris at ''Rue de Clichy'', ''Rue de Chateaudon'' and ''Rue de Cannettes''. One of his customers was Philipp von Ferrary who later employed Mahé as his private secretary and custodian of his stamp collection at his mansion in ''Rue de Varennes'' from 1874 until Mahé died in 1913. A stamp dealer is a company or an individual who deals in stamps and philatelic products. It also includes individuals who sell postage stamps for day to day use or revenue stamps for use on court documents. Stamp dealers who sell to stamp collectors and philatelists are of many kinds and their businesses range from small home operations to large international companies. Methods of sale Dealers may sell by mail order, at stamp fairs, at their own retail premises, through postal auctions or by sending packets of stamps on approval to collectors. Increasingly, dealers sell on internet auction sites like eBay or Delcampe. Dealers also vary in the type of material they handle, ranging from a general stock to highly specialised firms who only trade in particular countries or topical areas. Roll Of Distinguished Philatelists
The Roll of Distinguished Philatelists (RDP) is a Philately, philatelic award of international scale, created by the Philatelic Congress of Great Britain in 1921. The Roll consists of five pieces of parchment to which the signatories add their names. Selection of the signatories Those who have assisted the development of philately through their research, expertise or giving their time can be candidates to sign the Roll if they are sponsored by one of the existing signatories. Philipp Von Ferrary
Philip Ferrari de La Renotière (January 11, 1850 – May 20, 1917) was a noted French-born stamp collector, assembling probably the most complete worldwide collection that ever existed, or is likely to exist. Amongst his extremely rare stamps were the unique Treskilling Yellow of Sweden and the 1856 one-cent "Black on Magenta" of British Guiana. Background Ferrary was born in the sumptuous Hôtel Matignon, Rue de Varenne in Paris, where he resided until two years prior to his death. Once the festive gathering place for the ''Ancien Régime'' society, at the start of the Bourbon ''Restoration'' in 1815, Louis XVIII traded the Hôtel de Matignon for the Élysée Palace. Lindenberg Medal
The Lindenberg Medal is an award given to those who provide “conspicuous service to philately” because of their investigations and contributions to philatelic literature. Jacques Legrand (philatelist)
Dr. Jacques Amable Legrand (29 August 1820 – 6 June 1912) was one of the first collectors of French stamps in the nineteenth century and one of the first organizers and scholars of philately in France as a serious topic of study. He used the pseudonym of Dr. Magnus. He participated actively in the journal ''Le Timbrophile'' and invented the perforation gauge, or odontometer, which has become a basic tool in determining the perforation of stamps. He also fought an unsuccessful battle to reject the title of the subject advocated by Georges Herpin and Arthur Maury as "philately" and sought it to be renamed "Timbrology". Jacques Legrand was one of the founders on 14 June 1875 of the Société Française de Timbrologie, one of the most important philatelic institutions in France, and served as its first secretary.
