Thomas Peter Shadyac (born December 11, 1958) is an American director, screenwriter, producer, and author. The youngest joke-writer ever for comedian Bob Hope, Shadyac is widely known for writing and directing the comedy films ''Ace Ventura: Pet Detective'', ''The Nutty Professor (1996 film), The Nutty Professor'', ''Liar Liar'', ''Patch Adams (film), Patch Adams'', and ''Bruce Almighty''. ''When Nature Calls'' is a 1985 spoof comedy written and directed by Charles Kaufman and starring Academy Award nominee David Strathairn in an early performance.
