Zhané
Zhané ( ) was an American R&B duo, best known for their 1993 hit " Hey Mr. D.J.", which reached No. 6 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Other popular hits include "Groove Thang" (U.S. No. 17) and minor hit " Sending My Love", both released in 1994. The group was part of Queen Latifah's Flavor Unit collective. Biography Beginnings Renée Neufville and Jean Norris initially met in the early 1990s, while both were attending Philadelphia's Temple University; they would sing together at talent shows and other events. In her youth, Norris' father, Dennis, was a pastor at the Second Baptist Church in Moorestown, New Jersey, and Norris herself was a member of the choir. Although they were not yet a group, Neufville and Norris collaborated on each other's songs. "Groove Thang" is a song by American R&B group Zhané from their debut album, '' Pronounced Jah-Nay'' (1994). Released in January 1994, it was produced by and features a rap verse from Naughty by Nature. The song is based on a sample of " Haven't You Heard" as performed by Patrice Rushen. Flavor Unit
The Flavor Unit is a crew of emcees and DJs from New York City and Northern New Jersey. It is now known as the Unit. The original version of the crew centered on producer the 45 King. It was Mark's connections to radio personalities DJ Red Alert and DJ Chuck Chillout that initially got the crew noticed, but the original members also all had formidable rhyme skills and wrote streetwise lyrics. The 45 King eventually fell into serious drug abuse and Queen Latifah took over the name; it became her umbrella organization. The Baylor Project
The Baylor Project is an American jazz duo from New York City. Its members are husband and wife Marcus and Jean Baylor. Marcus Baylor is from St. Louis, Missouri and was previously the drummer for The Yellowjackets. Jean Baylor was previously a member of R&B group Zhané. They released their debut album, ''The Journey'', on Be A Light Records in 2017. In 2021, they released a second album, ''Generations'.'' Later that year, they joined the roster at Motown Music Group. Yellowjackets is an American jazz fusion band founded in 1977 in Los Angeles, California. History In 1977, guitarist Robben Ford, for his first solo album, recruited keyboardist Russell Ferrante, electric bassist Jimmy Haslip and drummer Ricky Lawson.
