Zao (US Band)
Zao () is an American metalcore band founded in Parkersburg, West Virginia and later relocated to Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Founded in March 1993, Zao has hosted several musicians and endured numerous roster changes to the point where no original members remain. Former drummer Jesse Smith, vocalist Dan Weyandt, and guitarists Scott Mellinger and Russ Cogdell are seen by some fans as the "core" of Zao, with the current line up being the longest running in the band's history. For a time, the band featured Christian themes in their music and was regarded as a Christian band, however this theme was eventually met with debate among the members and the band currently no longer considers themselves a "Christian band" with only bassist Martin Lunn identifying as a Christian. Parkersburg is a city in and the county seat of Wood County, West Virginia, Wood County, West Virginia. Sunny Day Real Estate is an American emo/indie rock band from Seattle, formed in 1992. The band currently consists of founding members Jeremy Enigk (vocals, guitar), Dan Hoerner (guitar) and William Goldsmith (drums), alongside Greg Suran (guitar), who originally played with the band between 2000 and 2001, and Chris Jordan (bass), who joined the band in 2022. Founding bass guitarist Nate Mendel was a member of the band during three of its four incarnations. Sunny Day Real Estate were one of the early rock bands in the Midwest emo scene which they helped establish, despite not being from the Midwest themselves. Training for Utopia, also stylized as TFU, was an American metalcore band active from 1996 to October 2000. History The band first signed with Tooth & Nail Records and was later moved to Solid State Records, the Tooth & Nail imprint that promotes heavy Christian music. Training for Utopia subsequently became popular in the Christian metal scene during its active years, although the band actively tried to remove themselves from that label during their later years. Their brief existence included a tour with Zao and at the time the upcoming band Spitfire, as well as Warlord. It was during this time that the band hired Carlos Colón (later to join The Deadlines) for their 1998 tour providing synthesizers and live guitar to their live show. Daniel Weyandt is the third and current vocalist of the American metalcore band, Zao. He was also the bassist for Seasons in the Field and current bassist for Lonely//Ghost//Parade. Weyandt is also a tattooer and owns a shop in his hometown, Greensburg, Pennsylvania. History According to Zao's DVD, ''The Lesser Lights of Heaven'', Weyandt started his music career with the band Seasons in the Field with friends Guitarist Russ Cogdell, Drummer Bob Bigelow, and Vocalist Jason Keener in 1996, which were originally named Sower. Emocore
Emo is a rock music genre characterized by emotional, often confessional lyrics. Symphony in Peril was a Christian metalcore band from Columbus, Ohio, United States. The band started in early 2002, and ended in late 2005, after Hellfest, which the band was to play, but was cancelled at the last minute.
