Zabihollah Safa
Zabihollah Safa ( fa, ذبیحاللّه صفا; May 7, 1911 in Shahmirzad, Iran – April 29, 1999 in Lübeck, Germany) was a scholar and professor Emeritus of Iranian Studies at the University of Tehran. His main contribution to the field of Iranian studies is seen in his seminal and comprehensive works on the history of Persian literature. Henri Massé
Henri Massé (2 March 1886 – 9 November 1969) was a 20th-century French orientalist. He was first professor of Arabic and Persian literatures at the faculté des lettres d'Alger, then professor of Persian language at the École nationale des langues orientales vivantes of Paris (1927–1958), of which he was administrator from 1948 to 1958 and a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres. Persian Literature
Persian literature ( fa, ادبیات فارسی, Adabiyâte fârsi, ) comprises oral compositions and written texts in the Persian language and is one of the world's oldest literatures. It spans over two-and-a-half millennia. Its sources have been within Greater Iran including present-day Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, the Caucasus, and Turkey, regions of Central Asia (such as Tajikistan) and South Asia where the Persian language has historically been either the native or official language. For example, Rumi, one of the best-loved Persian poets, born in Balkh (in modern-day Afghanistan) or Wakhsh (in modern-day Tajikistan), wrote in Persian and lived in Konya (in modern-day Turkey), at that time the capital of the Seljuks in Anatolia. The Ghaznavids conquered large territories in Central and South Asia and adopted Persian as their court language. Bakhtiyar-nama
The ''Bakhtiyar-nama'' is a medieval Iranian romance, which both has a prose and verse version. The earliest surviving version of the work is in the Arabic prose text of ''ʿAjāʾib al-bakht fī qiṣṣat al-aḥdī ʿashar wazīran wa-mā jāra lahum maʿ Ibn al-Malik Āzādbakht'' ("Wonders of the age, or the story of the eleven viziers and what befell them with prince Azadbakht"), written in 1000. The earliest surviving New Persian version is the ''Rāḥat al-arvāḥ'' ("Souls' repose") by the poet Shams al-Din Muhammad Daqa'iqi Marvaz, in a manuscript written in 1264/5. It has been suggested that the story originates from a Middle Persian Middle Persian or Pahlavi, also known by its endonym Pārsīk or Pārsīg () in its later form, is a Western Middle Iranian language which became the literary language of the Sasanian Empire. Ehsan Yarshater
Ehsan Yarshater ( fa, احسان يارشاطر, April 3, 1920 – September 1, 2018) was an Iranian historian and linguist who specialized in Iranology. He was the founder and director of The Center for Iranian Studies, and Hagop Kevorkian Professor Emeritus of Iranian Studies at Columbia University. He was the first Persian full-time professor at a U.S. university since World War II. He was one of the 40 editors of the ''Encyclopædia Iranica'', with articles by 300 authors from various academic institutions. He also edited the third volume of the Cambridge History of Iran, comprising the history of the Seleucid, the Parthians, and the Sassanians, and a volume entitled ''Persian Literature''. He was also an editor of a sixteen-volume series named ''History of Persian Literature''. He had won several International awards for scholarship, including a UNESCO award in 1959, and the Giorgio Levi Della Vida Medal for Achievement in Islamic Studies from UCLA in 1991.
